Job Summary
Under the direction of the Program Manager and/or Clinical Director, the Medical Assistant supports patient care activities to ensure efficient clinic flow and timely patient throughput. This role assists with both clinical and administrative duties, contributing to the effective day-to-day operations of the clinic.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

General/Administrative Duties

• Accurately schedules patient appointments and clearly communicates appointment information to patient.

• Maintains medical records according to procedures.

• Assists in maintaining a neat, clean, and orderly appearance in the lobby and overall center throughout the day.

• Prepares assists and accurately completes all forms.

• Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy work environment.

• Conducts business in a service-oriented manner that is attentive and respectful of patients, visitors, and co-workers.

• Attends staff meetings and training as required.

• May assist with clerical activities related to patient intake, data verification, office communications, etc.

Clinical Duties

• Places patient in exam room for provider evaluation.

• Obtains medical history and verifies patient information.

• Takes vital signs and performs all ancillary tests appropriate to skill level and within the medical assistant scope of practice.

• Supports patient care delivery.

• Maintains and operates clinical equipment, including calibration and record keeping in accordance with current policy and procedures.

BEHAVIORAL STANDARDS:

• Policy and Safety Standards: Attends staff meetings; follows HIPAA guidelines; follows patient rights policy; complies with the compliance program; demonstrates knowledge of role in a disaster; demonstrates knowledge of fire and fire drill procedures; working knowledge of hospital emergency codes; always utilizes standard precautions in the clinical setting; safely manages the environment of care by demonstrating a working knowledge of the requirements of the: Life Safety program, Utilities Management program, Hazardous Materials program, Emergency Preparedness program, Safety Management program, Medical Equipment Management program, Security Management program.

• Service Standards: Treats everyone as their customer; utilizes scripting and other tools to ensure consistency in customer service; Expresses recognition and shows appreciation to others; fully utilizes AIDET principles; responds quickly to handle requests, complaints and questions; displays a positive attitude.

• Quality Standards: Maintains professional licensure and competencies; follows chain of command; participates on hospital committees; is a team player who takes on additional duties; communicates promptly to other team members.

• Cost and Growth Standards: Uses hospital resources responsibly; looks for effective alternatives for purchases; performs duties efficiently and productively; remains current in professional knowledge; seeks new opportunities for professional growth; stays informed by reading communications; serves as ambassador for Doctors Hospital by taking pride in the facility; helps train and develop fellow employees and volunteers.

Requirements:

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience preferred

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

Licensure/Certifications:

  • Medical Assistant certification from an accredited medical assistant program required
