This role will be located at one of Discovery Land Company’s locations: Moncayo Golf & Ocean Club, set outside of Fajardo, Puerto Rico.
Moncayo Golf & Ocean Club is seeking a Golf Senior Mechanic to join the Golf Course Maintenance Department.
Purpose of Position:
The Head Mechanic reports to the Workshop Manager and/or the assistant golf course superintendent and oversees a comprehensive preventive maintenance program.
This program includes the repair of failing equipment, keeping records of parts and labor needed to maintain each piece of equipment. The Head Mechanic properly communicates any needs or problems relating to the maintenance or repair of equipment to the Workshop Manager and/or the assistant superintendent, and schedules and directs the work assignments of the assistant mechanics. The Head Mechanic places safety as a top priority and is responsible for maintaining a clean service area and maintenance building.
Skills & Knowledge Required:
- Working knowledge of light and heavy maintenance equipment and automotive apparatuses, with an emphasis on previous experience working with golf course maintenance equipment.
- Skill in the use of a variety of equipment repair tools, and the making of various types of mechanical repairs. Working knowledge of the theory, care, and operation of internal combustion engines and mowing equipment.
- Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the profession.
- Ability to move heavy objects.
- Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions while repairing equipment.
- Ability to diagnose mechanical troubles and determine appropriate maintenance work. Ability to communicate effectively and keep business records.
Work Experience & Education:
- Formal mechanical training – a plus
- 3 years minimum as an operational Mechanic
- 1-year minimum golf course equipment experience
Key Result Area: Golf Course Equipment Repair and Maintenance
- Oversees the completion of work assignments by crewmembers and assists with field decisions regarding job procedures, work standards, and machinery use.
- Enforces safe working conditions with all job assignments and is responsible for instructing staff on proper equipment use and work methods.
- Supervises special projects and labor crews.
- Manages the building maintenance program and improvement projects.
- Reports golf course conditions and all disciplinary problems to the Workshop Manager or the Assistant GC Superintendent.

Physical Requirements:
- Required to work outside for long periods of time to perform his/her duties
- Required to assist in manual labor activities when necessary
- Reasonable physical strength, stamina and agility.
