The Production Shift Lead is a working leadership role responsible for coordinating daily production activities while actively participating in production operations. This role ensures that production goals, quality standards, safety expectations, and staffing plans are executed effectively during each shift.
The Production Shift Lead serves as the primary operational leader on the production floor during their shift. This individual leads by example, supports team members, communicates priorities, and ensures work is completed efficiently and safely.
This role requires strong leadership, accountability, and the ability to balance hands-on production work with team coordination.

Role and Responsibilities
Production Leadership
- Lead daily production activities for the assigned shift while actively participating in production work
- Review staffing levels and coverage at the start of each shift
- Communicate production priorities, expectations, and deadlines to the team
- Ensure production schedules and customer commitments are met
- Monitor production pace, workflow, and quality throughout the shift
- Provide direction, coaching, and support to production team members
- Promote accountability and reinforce company standards for attendance, conduct, safety, and quality
- Step into production roles as needed to ensure workflow continues and operational goals are achieved
Operational Coordination
- Own the shift and ensure production activities remain organized and efficient
- Monitor production progress against planned targets
- Identify workflow issues or production bottlenecks and take action to resolve them
- Communicate shift updates, concerns, and priorities to leadership
- Coordinate staffing adjustments or task assignments as production needs change
- Ensure clear communication between shifts to support smooth operational transitions
- Prepare shift summaries including production results, issues encountered, and priorities for the next shift
- Work closely with the Equipment Technician to address machine performance, adjustments, and equipment concerns
- Ensure operators report machine issues promptly and follow proper reporting procedures
- Coordinate production workflow during machine troubleshooting, adjustments, or downtime
- Support the Equipment Technician by providing operational context and helping prioritize equipment issues impacting production
- Assist with basic machine operation and minor adjustments when appropriate
- Escalate recurring equipment issues, downtime concerns, or reliability challenges to leadership
- Help maintain efficient workflow while technical repairs or adjustments are being performed
Safety & Quality
- Promote and reinforce a safe work environment
- Ensure all team members follow safety procedures and required PPE standards
- Address safety concerns or incidents immediately and escalate when necessary
- Ensure production processes maintain established quality standards
- Identify potential quality issues early and support corrective actions
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe workspaces across the production floor
Team Support & Development
- Provide hands-on training and guidance to production team members
- Assist with onboarding and training new employees
- Encourage teamwork, collaboration, and accountability across the production team
- Identify skill gaps and communicate development opportunities to leadership
- Lead by example through professionalism, reliability, and a strong work ethic
- Support a culture of continuous improvement and shared responsibility
Communication & Escalation
- Communicate clearly with leadership regarding:
- Production performance and trends
- Staffing or attendance concerns
- Quality issues
- Equipment or process challenges
- Training or development needs
- Escalate issues that may impact safety, product quality, delivery commitments, or employee performance.
- Ensure accurate and timely communication during shift transitions so that incoming teams understand priorities, challenges, and outstanding work.

Qualifications and Education Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- 2+ years of manufacturing or production experience required
- Previous team lead or leadership experience required
- Strong understanding of production operations and workflow
- Ability to lead, motivate, and support team members
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Mechanical aptitude preferred
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage production demands in a fast-paced environment
- Reliable attendance and strong work ethic
- Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification preferred
- Experience with production software systems
Physical Requirements
- Required to stand for extended periods
- Bending, twisting, and reaching
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Continuous attention required to monitor production equipment and processes
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks and operate production machinery
- Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity

Salary & Bonus
- Base Hourly Range: $21 – $24/hr
(Range is based on experience, skills, and role alignment within the organization.) - Bonus Eligibility:
Eligible for a performance-based bonus of up to 4 - 10% of base annual salary, based on individual, team, and company performance.
