Veracyte is a pioneering global diagnostics company that empowers clinicians with the high-value insights they need to guide and assure patients at pivotal moments of cancer diagnosis and treatment. The Senior Pathologist / Assistant Laboratory Director will be responsible for histopathology reviews of the patient samples and for selecting tumor tissue appropriate for Veracyte genomic testing. This position will also be responsible for reporting molecular test results promptly, accurately and proficiently. This is an onsite role based out of our San Diego office with opportunity for travel to other Veracyte laboratory sites.
Working Schedule: Tuesday Saturday, 11am - 7:30pm
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Provide histopathology reviews of slides made from FFPE tissue including tumor confirmation, selection of tumor region of interest for testing, confirmation of surgical pathology diagnosis and grading, and qualify control of H&E stain.
- Review and sign-out molecular reports in a timely manner
- Act as Clinical Consultant and regularly communicate with ordering physicians about laboratory testing results
- Provide feedback to ensure the laboratory information system(s) and related applications provide clear and accurate test results
- Provide onsite consultation to the laboratory as needed as it pertains to patient sample and test results
- Provide medical support for the commercial team, including marketing and managed care; collaborate with and support customer services
- Assist the CLIA Laboratory Director of Record as needed
- Assist with onsite supervision of the clinical laboratory to meet CLIA, CAP, and NY Department of Health regulations
- Provide guidance and supervision of Clinical Laboratory Scientists and Lab Assistants
- Partner with development, operations, software, and quality teams to improve laboratory processes, workflow, and turnaround times for patient specimens
- Coordinate development, method selection, implementation, verification/validation, and launch of new tests in the CLIA lab in accordance with relevant regulatory and scientific standards
- Be compliant with company policies/procedures and safety requirements.
- Present to various laboratory personnel and have ability to communicate complex medical concepts into language understood by each target audience
- Flexible to travel off-site to support other Veracyte locations as needed
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. A successful candidate should have in-depth knowledge of anatomic pathology and molecular genetic/molecular diagnostic testing. The ideal candidate should also be an excellent communicator in both written and verbal routes. Impeccable ethics is a must.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Must have earned a MD or DO degree with certification in anatomic and clinical pathology (AP/CP) by the American Board of Pathology or American Osteopathic Board of Pathology
- Must have Molecular Pathology (MP) Fellowship and be eligible or board certified in MP
- Possess current CA license to practice with a minimum of 10 years experience
- NY Certificate of Qualification in Oncology Molecular and Cellular Tumor Markers preferred
- 2-5+ years of experience working in a CAP/CLIA/NY state-licensed anatomic pathology laboratory and/or molecular clinical laboratory preferred
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Repetitive movement of hands, arms, legs and fingers (typing and/or writing)
- Sitting, with occasional walking, standing, stooping and moving about
- Exposure to general office environmental conditions
- Occasionally required to lift up to 25 pounds

For candidates based in our San Diego office, the salary is $230,000 - $280,000 per year. This position is eligible for bonus and equity.
The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to years of experience, skillset, geographic location, industry, education, etc. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.
