About This Position

Job Purpose:

Machine design engineer: Design production machine and equipment based on process design and review drawings and quotations from machine contractors related to investment.

Responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned as needed):

1) Equipment Design & Drawing

  • Create and maintain mechanical and equipment design drawings, including assembly drawings, part drawings, layouts, and installation drawings.
  • Develop equipment designs based on technical specifications, production requirements, and internal design standards.
  • Utilize 2D/3D CAD tools (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor) for equipment modeling and documentation.
  • Revise and update drawings according to design changes, improvement actions, and engineering change requests (ECR/ECO).
  • Ensure designs consider manufacturability (DFM), assimilability (DFA), safety, and maintenance accessibility.
  • Coordinate with Production, Process, Quality, and Automation teams to reflect operational requirements in the design.

2) Vendor Quotation Review & Approval Support

  • Receive and review equipment vendor quotations for new and modified production equipment.
  • Evaluate quotations against technical specifications, scope of supply, cost, and delivery schedule.
  • Review vendor design proposals, drawings, and technical documents for engineering compliance.
  • Provide technical feedback and clarification to vendors during quotation and negotiation stages.
  • Support internal approval processes by preparing technical review summaries and recommendations.
  • Collaborate with Purchasing, Project Management, and Finance teams for vendor selection and approval.

3) Mass Production Equipment Issue Resolution & Design Improvement

  • Analyze equipment issues during mass production from a design and mechanical perspective.
  • Identify root causes related to structure, durability, precision, repeatability, safety, and operability.
  • Propose and implement design improvements, structural modifications, and component changes.
  • Support equipment modification and retrofit activities through updated drawings and instructions.
  • Verify improvement effectiveness and support recurrence prevention through design solutions.

4) Design Standards, Guidelines, and Documentation (Common Responsibilities)

  • Develop, standardize, and maintain equipment design guidelines and engineering standards.
  • Establish and manage standard parts, design libraries, and approved vendor lists.
  • Ensure consistent application of design standards across new designs, modifications, and improvements.
  • Document lessons learned and reflect them in design standards and guidelines.
  • Maintain proper design documentation, revision control, and engineering records.

Qualifications:

  • 4 Year university degree preferred - or comparable background of work-related experience in Manufacturing Engineering.

Technical Competencies:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office - Excel, PowerPoint, Minitab etc.
  • Proficient in Autocad and Analysis in Geometric tolerance
  • Proficient in 3D CAD Program

Non-Technical Competencies:

  • Strong communication skills (verbal, written, listening).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Results oriented with strong problem solving/analytical skills
  • Great planning skills.

Supervisory Responsibility: None

Remote Work Eligibility: This position is not eligible for hybrid or remote work.
