About This Position
Human Service Educator, Human Services Foundations
About this Role: The Human Service Educator will play a critical role in our new Human Service Foundations program. The Human Service Educator will serve as an instructor for the Human Service Foundations program and collaborate with the Heights Career Team on the delivery of content for the program curriculum. The Human Service Educator will also provide program assistance with activities, logistics, and field trips. Beyond academic preparation, the Human Service Educator will plan community-building activities and serve as a key point and support person to students. Lastly, the Human Service Educator will be tasked with cultivating an energetic, thought-provoking, and informative learning environment for our students.

- Teaching a class of approximately 20 rising 10th and 11th grade students using our curricular materials for four hours each day
- Developing student skills to prepare for a career in human services (eg, advocacy plans, case management, integrated care, community organizing, recognizing mental health distress, etc)
- Supporting students in completing individualized research on community health challenges in Philadelphia using current data as provided by Heights and the City of Philadelphia
- Collaborating with the Healthcare Educator to create opportunities for cross-disciplinary collaboration in the class
- Serving as a mentor to students, building rapport with them, and sharing your experience and enthusiasm for healthcare
- Ensuring the Foundations program runs smoothly in partnership with the summer Human Service Foundations team.
About you:
- A Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 2 years of experience in healthcare, or an Associate's degree in healthcare with a minimum of 5 years of experience in a healthcare environment, such as social work, counseling, psychology, mental health, or community advocacy.
- Experience providing human services education and coordinating experiences related to human services.
- Prior teaching, tutoring, or mentoring experience with adolescents, curriculum design experience preferred.
- Personal and/or professional background related to understanding the experience of our Black, Latino, and first-generation scholars.
- Familiarity and experience with local schools and communities (preferred).
- Strong group facilitation skills.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
- Willing to take initiative.
Heights employees:
- Must meet expectations to report in-person on a schedule determined by their direct manager and/or the Vice President of the team.
- Must meet PA State background check requirements [PA Criminal, PA Child Abuse and FBI Fingerprint Check] at hire and every five years thereafter.
- Strong orientation to customer service, particularly with regard to students, partners and colleagues
- Proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Office and related applications, as well as use of general office equipment (phones, computers, copiers, etc)
- Fluency in the use of data and data systems. Maintains appropriate engagement with data entry, reporting and review.
- Must adhere to COVID safety guidelines as established by Heights and/or its partners.
- Office-based staff should be mindful of the organization's strong recommendation that staff maintain up to date with COVID vaccination and boosters.
- Site-based staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and must submit to any COVID testing or other health screenings as required by the Department of Human Services and/or the School District of Philadelphia.
- Must be able to work in a busy, often complex work environment that is generally climate controlled.
- Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds unassisted on an occasional basis.
- Must be able to sit for long periods of time.
- Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time.
- Access to reliable transportation required
