Overview

Partners closely with clinical teams, client teams, business development, leadership, and technical teams, drive product vision, and production execution, and supports customers. A key driver in the direction of products that support SGS/MCA’s growth ensures that all SGS/MCA software products are not only positioned to support the dynamic needs of both internal/external customers but also offer flexible capabilities to add and improve uses in the government marketplace.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for leading the software engineering department, setting the technical strategy, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality products that align with business goals.
  • Manage Software engineering teams by supervising Managers, Architects, Software developers, Database administrators and Quality Assurance analysts to deliver customer requirements
  • Provides the architectural vision and technical guidance to build a full-stack platform in a modern technology stack
  • Guides teams through the planning, prioritization, and execution of work
  • Provides continuous feedback to the SDLC to improve your team’s velocity and the reliability of the software they produce
  • Addresses underperformance and recognize the individual strengths and contributions of your team members
  • Partners with product managers to understand desired application capabilities and testing scenarios - Continuously improve software engineering practices
  • Directs within and across Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support technical solutions across full-stack development tools and technologies
  • Leads the craftsmanship, availability, resilience, and scalability of your solutions
  • Encourages innovation, implementation of cutting-edge technologies, inclusion, outside-of-the-box thinking, teamwork, self-organization, and diversity
  • Drives product backlogs for SGS/MCA-owned applications while managing issues and mitigating risks.
  • Ensures clear project requirements and product specifications are created based on market needs, customer requirements, and industry trends.
  • Partners with the Technical Solutions leadership, the development team, the infrastructure team, the security team, and internal SMEs to ensure product releases meet stakeholder and customer expectations.
  • Liaise with the Business Development, Marketing, and other Product Management functions to ensure all steps of the sales, development, and implementation processes are successfully completed.
  • Directs a collaborative product team accountable for product vision and strategy
  • Achieves optimal outcomes in a highly dynamic environment
  • Thought leadership in suggesting innovative software solutions for healthcare and human resource industry challenges
  • Ability to understand client needs and define the appropriate features needed to meet those requirements
  • Dedication to achieving outstanding results with a team-oriented drive and a demonstrated ability to lead by example.
  • Develops and implements software solutions
  • Develops and directs complex development schedules for software production solutions

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Experience leading and coaching teams to provide data governance support, research solutions, and data integrity and data cleansing support to Commercial and Federal customers and stakeholders.
  • Superior leadership skills. Must establish and mentor a team of junior programmers/ senior programmers and database administrators.
  • Primary duty includes managing the team and regularly directing the work of full-time professionals. Has the authority to hire or fire or provide suggestions and recommendations as to the hiring, firing, advancement, promotion, or any other change in employment status.
  • Provide leadership and assistance to the team in daily operations. Motivate and manage staff to ensure performance standards are met or exceeded.
  • Effectively counsel and coach employees on performance and behavioral improvements. Understand and appropriately apply employee disciplinary procedures with appropriate documentation. Coordinate terminations with HR.
  • Provide timely direct feedback to staff through scheduled guidance/coaching sessions and mid year/annual evaluations. This includes active coaching and engaging employees to enhance their performance and commitment. Assist employees to develop skills needed to achieve optimal performance and strong performance in their role.
  • Actively resolve colleague conflict by utilizing improvement efforts, multi-disciplinary strategies, problem-solving skills, and conflict management. Make timely decisions based on the evaluation of outcomes and communicate the results effectively so that the employee understands the reason behind the decision.
  • Monitor colleague attendance and approve timesheets of direct reports. Authorize vacations and personal days in accordance with staffing needs and company.

Experience

  • 15+ years of hands-on experience in developing and supporting large-scale applications
  • 12+ years of software engineering management experience with direct reports
  • Proven experience coaching, mentoring, and developing a team
  • Excellent agile project management skills; ability to estimate scope, break up problems into deliverable chunks, and pivot when requirements change
  • Experience building large-scale applications with cloud environments
  • Experience working in a DevOps style of production operations
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with SecDevOps tools

Programming Experience or Knowledge (Desired)

  • HTML, JavaScript, and CSS

  • MSSQL/MySQL

Batch/Shell scripting

Familiarity with Atlassian Products (especially JIRA, Confluence, and Bitbucket)

Familiarity with containerization, microservices, and SecDevOps strategies/tools

Preference for operational or consulting experience in core product development in software configuring/building and testing

Ability to write technical documentation to support version control, department SOPs, and collaboration with external entities

Sedgwick Government Solutions provides a reasonable range of compensation for roles that may be hired in jurisdictions requiring pay transparency in job postings.
