SQA Services is seeking a Mechanical & Composites Source Inspector to support part-time, on-site inspections at supplier locations in the San Diego area.

This is a flexible role, typically 2–4 days per week on the first shift, where inspectors may accept or decline assignments based on availability. The role involves performing source inspections on mechanical and composite components to ensure compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, and quality requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform source inspections at supplier facilities for mechanical and composite parts, assemblies, and materials
  • Conduct in-process and final inspections, including witness inspections when required
  • Verify compliance with engineering drawings, GD&T, and specifications
  • Inspect composite components for defects (delamination, voids, surface issues, etc.)
  • Perform dimensional inspections using hand tools (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, etc.)
  • Review inspection documentation, including CoCs, FAIs, and inspection reports
  • Identify and document nonconformances and communicate findings clearly
  • Verify workmanship, cleanliness (FOD), and product condition
  • Ensure proper packaging, preservation, and shipping documentation
Required Qualifications
  • Experience performing mechanical and/or composites inspections in aerospace or manufacturing environments
  • Prior experience with source inspections at supplier sites
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T
  • Knowledge of composite inspection techniques and common defects
  • Proficiency with hand inspection tools
  • Ability to work independently at supplier locations
  • U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident (ITAR required)
  • Reliable transportation for travel within the San Diego area
Preferred Qualifications
  • Aerospace or defense manufacturing background
  • Experience inspecting composite structures and precision machined parts
  • Familiarity with FAI, CoCs, and inspection documentation
  • Experience supporting supplier quality or vendor inspections
50% hourly rate for any travel time ("p2p")
Mileage reimbursement at the US gov't rate ($0.725 per mile driven). Untaxed.
