Job Overview: The Speech Therapy Supervisor is responsible for the administrative and clinical oversight of the department with assistance from the Director and Manager as needed. The Supervisor works collaboratively with the managers and clinical partners to ensure best practice standards and clinical development of department and staff. They uphold shared values of the organization to lead department and staff and exemplifies these values in every interaction with patients, families, staff, and colleagues. The Speech Therapy Program at Children's Specialized Hospital specializes in the anatomy, physiology and function of speech sound production and feeding skills as well as cognition and language development for children, adolescents and young adults from birth through 21 years of age. They are deeply knowledgeable and able to help children, and their families establish better communication and feeding skills that improve their quality of life. Through a family-centered approach, our treatment team actively involves the child’s family and caregivers in therapy. Qualifications: Required:- Graduation from an accredited Speech Language Pathology program
- NJ Speech Language Pathology license
- Certificate of Clinical Competence from American Speech-Language-Hearing Association
- Speech Correctionist or Speech-Language Specialist Certificate
- Member of ASHA
- AHA BLS Provider certification
- Experience working as a Speech Language Pathologist
- Clinical experience working with the pediatric patient population
- Previous experience supervising staff and programs
- Experience working with interdisciplinary teams and developing interdisciplinary relationships
- Demonstrates clinical excellence and leadership ability
- Ability to influence, guide and motivate staff
- Evidence of good time management skills and the ability to make effective decisions
- Maintains a positive attitude and has excellent communication skills
- Demonstrates tact, initiative and judgment in performance of duties
- Physical stamina to lift, maneuver patients and equipment
Preferred:
- A minimum of five years of clinical experience working with pediatric population
- Previous clinical supervision experience
- Experience working with interdisciplinary teams
- NJ Speech Language Pathology license
- Certificate of Clinical Competence from American Speech-Language-Hearing Association
- Speech Correctionist or Speech-Language Specialist Certificate
- AHA BLS Provider certification
- Full Time
- 40 hours/week
- Flexibility in work hours
- Oversees weekly staff schedules, monitors documentation deficiencies, monitors outpatient flow stats
- Monitors volumes and reviews with staff and plans accordingly
- Assists with coordination of outpatient schedules for patients needing multiple services, if applicable
- Ensures that department follows administrative and clinical policies and procedures
- Identifies need for improvements and suggests modifications to related policies if needed
- Takes an active role in assuring the organization meets regulations that oversee their practice
- Handles customer service issues and is responsible to make sure department upholds Service Excellence standards at all interactions
- Takes an active role in reviewing Press Ganey survey and performs follow up
- Assists with hiring of new staff
- Responsible for orienting new staff to department procedures, provides clinical supervision to staff and aides, ensures staff meet department expectations
- Responsible for PI process, 90-day review, and APR process with input from the manager director
- Assists in developing a process for recruitment and retention of experienced clinicians
- Ensures staff adheres to family centered care philosophy and best practice within clinical evaluations, goal development, treatment and discharge planning through periodic review and monitoring of documentation
- Shares skills and knowledge for staff clinical growth
- Partners with the clinical lead team to identify best practice guidelines and implement changes to service delivery
- Partners with staff to develop Personal Development Plans and monitors progress for goal attainment
- Identifies, inspires and helps to grow new leaders in the organization at the personal, clinical, departmental and organizational level
- Oversees department in-service training
- Assists in maintenance of relevant department manuals and education records
- Attends Leadership Retreats and other meetings as selected by Directors
- Shares relevant information with staff
- Communicates and assures understanding or relevant organizational and site level information to all staff in a timely manner
- Maintains communication with Directors and Managers for department operational issues and Director of Clinical Quality for clinical and clinical education opportunities
- Serves as a link between Directors Managers and department staff
- Assists with development and management of department budget
- Collaborates with Director and Manager when ordering supplies
- Assists with program development and marketing
- Helps provide community outreach and education
- Works at CSH facilities as designated by Director and Manager
- May be required to travel among sites to provide clinical care, attend meetings, and or provide supervisory responsibilities
