About This Position
The Outreach MA is a crucial member of the outreach medical team serving patients who are experiencing homelessness at the Las Vegas Courtyard, Recuperative Care Center, and other locations. The Outreach Medical Assistant (MA) participates in the delivery of excellent medical services in a patient centered medical home environment with an emphasis on the prevention of disease by serving as the initial contact between the patient and provider. The MA obtains vital signs, has the patient complete any intake screenings, obtains the reason for the visit (chief complaint(s)), and preps the exam rooms. They also assist the provider with minor procedures, administers vaccines/injections, and conducts venipuncture. The MA is also expected to actively participate in and support quality improvement activities and the clinical practice team efforts with an emphasis on the importance of the individual patient and putting the patient’s needs first.
Schedule: 4:10's, Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Administrative Duties
- Serves on the Patient Care Team
- Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; recording medical history; confirming purpose of visit
- Prepares patient exam and treatment rooms with necessary paperwork and/or instruments
- Administers injections and applies dressings as instructed by the physician
- Works directly in coordination with the providers to receive detailed instructions on the care for each patient
- Prepares patients for examination by performing preliminary physical tests; taking vital signs; reporting patient history summary
- Protects HIPAA and maintains patient confidentiality.
- Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures; comply with legal regulations
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications
- Maintains all BLS certifications Must be certified through the American Heart Association (AHA)
- Attends and actively participates in staff meetings and participates in committee meetings as requested
- Maintains respectful, courteous, and appropriate communication and interpersonal skills with all staff members, volunteers, and patients
- Supports patient care activities by managing time effectively, utilizing resources appropriately, and exemplifying excellence in attention to detail
- Travel between clinic sites as needed
- Performs all other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Fluency in Spanish required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification-required
- Office Laboratory Assistant Certification within 30 days of hire
- Phlebotomy experience- preferred.
- At least (two years Outreach Medical Assistant experience in an outpatient clinic setting-primary care experience preferred
Education Required:
- High School Diploma or equivalent-required.
- Successful completion of a Medical Assistant program from an accredited program or school-required
- National Medical Assistant Certification (RMA, CCMA, etc.) - preferred

- Knowledge of CPT and ICD-10-CM coding

- Proven leadership, teambuilding, and organizational skills.
- Skill in identifying and clearly communicating problems to the supervisor
- Ability to follow medical Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement standards and policies
- Proven ability to maintain integrity in a fast paced and high-demand environment.
- Proven ability to manage performance goals.
- Ability to interact with people from all ethnic backgrounds, ages, and lifestyles.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Occasional standing, walking, lifting, reaching, kneeling, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling and lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds. Frequent sitting. Manual dexterity. Good reading eyesight and vision for close work. This role involves working in varying weather conditions, both Summer and Winter.
