About This Position

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Planner is responsible for preparing and maintaining project schedules within the Mechanical (Plumbing) Value Stream, including new construction and repair projects, while working closely with Engineering, Purchasing, and Production to identify and track resourcing needs and establish effective work planning. Reporting to the Value Stream Manager, the Planner will also be responsible for tracking project performance against the plan and identifying opportunities for improvement or recovery as necessary. In addition, the Planner will be tasked with obtaining the boat schedule from the Master Scheduler and incorporating it into the overall project timeline, breaking down the schedule into trade-specific task packages with clearly defined responsibilities and timelines, coordinating with trade leads to validate task durations and dependencies, and ensuring alignment between trade execution and production milestones.

This role requires the ability to break down complex, multi‑trade work into clear, sequenced task packages. A working understanding of the pipefitting/plumbing trade — including typical installation workflows, material lead times, testing requirements, and interdependencies with other trades — is essential to ensure accurate planning and realistic schedule development.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Create and maintain project schedules across new construction and repair projects within a specific Value Stream, incorporating the boat schedule provided by the Master Scheduler and assisting in driving organizational activities to meet those schedules.
  1. Lead planning sessions to sequence engineering deliverables, parts fabrication, assembly, installation, testing, and other production operations, ensuring alignment with the overall project timeline and trade-specific task breakdowns.
  1. Collaborate with trade supervisors to establish and plan near-term and long-term schedules and priorities, using the boat schedule and project milestones as key reference points.
  1. Coordinate with leaders across all departments to ensure a universal and thorough understanding of each project schedule, so that engineering work, material purchasing, production tasks, and all other deliverables align with the master schedule.
  1. Use project schedules to establish resource plans throughout a value stream, ensuring that staffing and material needs are forecasted and aligned with trade-specific timelines.
  1. Support business development efforts during the pre-contract phase by preparing estimated project schedules, resource estimations, and site availability options for potential bids.
  1. Work closely with department leaders and the Master Scheduler to establish, track, and report meaningful performance metrics that reflect schedule adherence and project health.
  1. Serve as the central point of communication for all schedule-related information for a specific trade, facilitating coordination and transparency among internal customers and stakeholders.

LEADERSHIP:

  1. Must demonstrate an excellent ability to work in a “team” environment and share knowledge of discipline-specific work in both a vertical (up and down the org chart) and horizontal (across disciplines and departments) orientation.
  2. Must demonstrate an ability to make well-formed, rational decisions and problem-solving skills within organizational policies and procedures.
  3. This position has no direct reports.

DECISION MAKING:

Exercise administrative judgment regularly and continuously and assume responsibility for decisions, consequences, and results impacting people and the high quality of service within the company.

COMMUNICATION:

Must possess and demonstrate the ability to communicate verbally and in writing positively and effectively with employees, co-workers, suppliers, and vendors.

EDUCATION:

A bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering or a related field is preferred.

EXPERIENCE:
