About This Position

High Plains Processing is seeking an experienced Shift Supervisor for the soon-to-be switch plant in Mitchell, South Dakota. High Plains is affiliated with South Dakota Soybean Processors and their strategic partners. Under the direction and supervision of the Crush Manager, the Shift Supervisor will provide direct supervision assistance, training, coaching, task assignment, process continuous improvement, and motivation through team leadership principles. High Plains Processing is projected to open the fall of 2025. The start date for the Shift Supervisor is tentatively scheduled for April 2025.

Primary Responsibilities

Safety

  • Keep safety at the forefront. Demonstrate and lead safety culture through compliance, training, hazard identification, reporting, emergency response, and active participation in safety initiatives.
  • Work with the safety department and SQF management to implement and monitor employee safety, product safety, plant sanitation, and environmental compliance.
  • Maintain standards above minimum compliance with all governing laws and regulations.

People

  • Provide leadership that promotes high performing teamwork, personal accountability, cooperation, and career development.
  • Communicate, drive, and promote leadership team objectives and goals.
  • Provide direct supervision to a shift of process technicians and loadout technicians. Facilitate goal development and execution to foster both individual and team growth.
  • Utilize leadership skills to promote teamwork across all shifts and departments.
  • Conduct operational training and develop procedures to maximize safety, productivity, and efficiency.

Production

  • Facilitate efficient and safe operations in the Crush and Refinery plants including daily production, operational efficiencies, quality control, project execution, product loadout, material receiving, and light maintenance. The shift supervisor is primary onsite leadership on nights and weekends.
  • Point of contact to assist in resolution of operational, technical, or mechanical issues on designated shift.
  • Responsible for ensuring sample collection, appropriate operational adjustments, and required documentation are completed by process technicians.
  • Effectively communicate process opportunities including both deficiencies and efficiencies.
  • Work collaboratively with internal departments and supporting teams to resolve plant opportunities.

Communicate and Collaborate

  • Work closely with leadership teams to recruit, onboard and train new team members to build high functioning teams ready to learn, adapt and respond to new challenges.
  • Participate in performance standard development. Encourage participation in training and development programs.
  • Responsible for ensuring critical shift notes are communicated to and understood by the oncoming shift.

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year of service in a production supervisory role.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic computer skills including experience with Microsoft office suite.
  • Must be able to perform operating tasks within the Crush and Refinery Plants including startup, normal operations, shutdown, emergency operations, and light maintenance activities.
  • Maintain a safe, positive work attitude and demonstrate willingness to be a team member.
  • Perform duties outside normal responsibilities as needed to support the team and overall organizational goals.
  • Dependable, self-motivated, and able to work well with others.
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical thinking skills with ability to prioritize, adapt and act.

Physical Requirements

Must Possess the Ability to Do the Following Frequently:

  • Bend, Squat, & Kneel
  • Stand & Walk
  • Push/Pull & Carry/Lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Handle Objects
  • Climb Ladders and Stairs
  • Reach Above Shoulder Level

  • Crawl

  • Use Fine Finger Movements
  • Carry/Lift Over 50 lbs.
