Position Summary:

Under the general direction of the Director, Coordinator of Social Work provides direct patient care services and clinical supervision of social work staff. Establishes own work plan and functions independently within scope of established policies and procedures. Refers unusual issues and matters lacking clear precedent to Director. Coordinates Social Work services including monitoring of caseloads and makes adjustments as necessary.

This is a full-time 40 hour/ week position

Responsibilities:

  • Supervises social workers in all areas of patient care including review of charts and participation in family meetings at the request of the social worker in particularly difficult cases.
  • Coordinates Social Work services including regular meetings with staff to discuss clinical issues as they relate to patient care. Monitors caseloads and makes adjustments as necessary.
  • Participates in the annual evaluation of social workers by giving feed-back to the Director on staff performance.
  • At the request of the Director, may represent the department at hospital meetings and in the community.
  • Meets regularly with the Director for supervision
  • Assists the Director with identifying staffing needs and the allocation of staffing resources.
  • Responsible for the management of cases on assigned floors.
  • Responsible for coordinating the assignment of cases in the absence of the regular social worker due to illness or vacation.
  • Alerts the Director of any potential problems that may be occurring.
  • Makes recommendations to the Director relative to staff developmental needs.
  • Coordinates Social Work services including regular meetings with staff to discuss clinical issues as they relate to patient care. Monitors caseloads and makes adjustments as necessary.
  • Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.

Performs other duties as assigned

BASIC KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/APTITUDE/EXPERIENCE:

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization may exist.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Must be able to reasonably make appropriate professional judgment in communications and actions with patient, physicians, other associates, outside agencies and vendors.

Education/Experience/Licenses/Technical/Other:

  • Education: Master’s Degree in Social Work required.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years experience, of which 3 must be in an acute care hospital with supervisory background or equivalent.
  • Certification/Licensure: Licensed as an LICSW in the state of MA required.
  • Software/Hardware: Microsoft office products including Word and Excel, Meditech, Allscripts.
