SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
The unarmed security officers main function is to ensure the safety and security of garden guests, staff, and garden property. Closing duties include kindly sweeping the guests out of the garden at closing, securing and arming major building structures, securing all gates and doors, and reporting any safety hazards or maintenance issues to the Security Manager or Director of Operations.
During events, the unarmed officer will help to ensure adherence to garden policies and procedures, as well as TABC and Texas state laws. The officer may be called upon to assist with directing guests to event venues, restrooms, the gift shop, and the major garden structures. A strong sense of customer service and professionalism when dealing with garden staff and guests is a must!

QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High School Diploma or general education degree (GED)
Experience: Must have 2+ years of work experience in similar role
Must be able to obtain a Level II Noncommissioned Security Officer License within 30 days of employment
Must be familiar with the penal code Chapter 9 Use of Force, applicable trespassing and weapons laws
First Aid, CPR, AED Certification, or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment.
Must pass a criminal background check and drug test
Professional appearance and demeanor
Physically fit to walk or jog for up to one mile
Must be able to stand for long periods of time
Must possess a high level of integrity and tact
Good verbal communication with guests and staff in person and over the radio
Must be able to work any shift to include overnights, weekends and some holidays
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Must demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and the ability to accept constructive criticism.
Demonstrate ability to interact with members of a diverse group of staff, donors, volunteers, and members of the public.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills to write reports, identify problems and recommend solutions to the Security Manager.
Must be able to work prioritize tasks in a high-paced environment. Elevated customer service focus and skills
Self-motivated, resourceful, and reliable
WORKING CONDITIONS
Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
Work is most frequently performed in all buildings but may be performed in other locations on the grounds of the Botanical Garden.
Expected to perform under minimum supervision and act independently within the scope of normal duties and responsibilities.
Work will be performed in areas with frequent high levels of visitation, requiring excellent customer service and professionalism at all times while balancing the need for productivity.
Compensation: Compensation will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the individual.
