Job Summary
The Electrical Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for multi-family new construction projects. This role involves analyzing drawings, specifications, and related documents to determine material, labor, and time requirements. The estimator collaborates closely with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, and clients to ensure that all bids are thorough, cost-effective, and aligned with company standards and project goals.
Key Responsibilities Include: (But not limited to the following)
Estimating & Bidding:
- Review and interpret electrical plans, specifications, and addenda for multi-family residential projects.
- Prepare detailed take-offs of electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, low-voltage, and other related systems.
- Develop complete and accurate cost estimates, including materials, labor, equipment, subcontractor quotes, and overhead.
- Create and manage bid proposals and ensure timely submission to general contractors or clients.
- Evaluate and compare subcontractor and supplier quotations for accuracy and scope coverage.
Project Coordination:
- Work closely with project management and engineering teams to develop value engineering options and alternative design solutions.
- Participate in project handoff meetings to transition awarded projects to the operations team.
- Maintain an organized database of historical cost information and vendor pricing for future estimates.
Communication & Relationship Management:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with general contractors, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Attend pre-bid meetings and project site visits when necessary.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with clients regarding project scope and clarifications.
Qualifications
Education:
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (preferred but not required with experience).
Experience:
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in electrical estimating, preferably with multi-family new construction projects.
- Strong knowledge of NEC (National Electrical Code) and local electrical codes.
Technical Skills:
- Proficient in estimating software (e.g., Accubid, McCormick, ConEst, or equivalent).
- Competent with Bluebeam, PlanSwift, and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
Soft Skills:
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple bids and meet tight deadlines.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
