Job Description:
Join CPD and jump into the world of crime prevention and community outreach!
This isn’t just another summer internship behind a desk! As a Crime Prevention Intern, you’ll take a front seat in developing outreach programs, work on real projects and gain hands-on experience in policing and crime prevention — all while serving your community and exploring a future in criminal justice.

What You’ll Do:
  • Support the Special Operations Section by creating community outreach courses and documents.
  • Assist with community events such as Identi-Kid and Coffee with a Cop.
  • Provide customer service and field phone calls for the Crime Prevention Unit as needed.
  • Citizen contact and follow-up on crime prevention trainings, security surveys and more.
  • Assist certified Crime Prevention specialists with compiling security survey files and electronically transferring into record management systems.
  • Compile information for crime trend education and other public announcements.
  • Join sworn officers, crime analysts or forensic technicians for real-world ride along experiences as available.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications:
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Strong written and verbal skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism

Students participating in the Internship Program will be responsible for the following:
  • Providing their own transportation to and from work.
  • Arriving at the work site at the time designated by the worksite supervisor.
  • Performing the tasks assigned by the vocational instructor/coordinator and the worksite supervisor in an efficient manner.
  • Demonstrating honesty, punctuality, courtesy, a cooperative attitude, appropriate dress, and a willingness to learn.
  • Conforming to the guidelines of the internship worksite.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience using Canva
  • Pursuing a degree or having an interest in a criminal justice, marketing, or related field.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a professional and confidential environment

The ideal candidate is a college student in good standing, preferably a junior, senior, or graduate student currently enrolled in an accredited college or university or recently graduated (within one year of graduation) and majoring in criminal justice, marketing, or a related field.
