CAREERS INSPIRED TO LEAD

Under the supervision of the Director, the Assistant Director of Programs position will support team leadership, program development, program retention and growth, and strategic goals in the Aquatics program area. This position will support the development of the program budgets, while maintaining a healthy, safe environment in these primary areas of responsibility. Human relations with both adults and children as well as customer service skills are paramount to the success of this position.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITES INCLUDE:
    • Program Administration: Support for the programs in Aquatics including retention and engagement strategies, promotions, and development and implementation of programs to meet the needs of people with varying fitness and skill levels. In coordination with the Director, analyzes problems and makes decisions guided by precedent and established policy, with understanding and confidence to make solid, thoughtful, independent decisions regarding members, program participants, and community initiatives. Supports program area budget preparation. Support program facilities and programming needs by obtaining necessary certifications. Coordinate with Marketing to support program growth and sustainability of programs. Prepare and lead programs and classes as needed.
    • Staff Management & Development: Supports daily operations related to the program department and facilities. Assists the Director to hire, train, schedule, and daily supervision of swim lesson instructors, lifeguards, and other aquatics team members. Contributes to educating team members on procedures and follow-up to ensure the YMCA members are treated with courtesy, caring, respect and honesty.
    • Administrative & Operations Support: Responsible for Manager-on-Duty role which will include schedule flexibility with 1 evening per week, and weekend shifts as needed. Supports the Director to research, order, receive, and evaluate program and facility needs for materials, goods, and services. Serve as a campaigner for the Annual Campaign.
    • Community Development & Event Leadership: Coordinate with the Director and other departments for any reservation or rental requests in program areas. Support and attendance on the Program Committee.
    • Other Duties: Assigned as necessary by the Director.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
  • Degree in physical education, recreation, sport management, business management, or related field, or a minimum 3 years’ equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Knowledge of computer systems including proficiency in Microsoft Office. Daxko membership software experience desired but not required.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule to meet deadlines and organizational, operational needs.
  • Must have strong attention to detail, organization, interpersonal, and communications skills, ability to multitask and work independently, meet strict deadlines, and work well under pressure.
  • Successful completion of background check; First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications obtained within first 30 days of employment and then maintained throughout employment.
  • Other Aquatics-Specific Certifications – Must be a certified Lifeguard, a Lifeguard and CPR/FA/AED Instructor from an accredited governing body (American Red Cross, American Heart Association), and Oxygen Administration, or complete certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Aquatic and Pool management experience preferred.
