Purpose of Job:
The Lead Hand adds value to our Customers and our Co-Workers by being responsible for assisting the supervisor in the oversight and active participation in the daily operations of the warehouse in a safe and efficient manner. This involves being a positive team member by demonstrating strong leadership skills, a solid understanding of warehouse operations, and a commitment to maintaining safety and quality standards in a fast-paced warehouse environment.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensure all duties and responsibilities are completed as per Next’s Standard Operating Procedures:
- Team Leadership: Assist the supervisor with leading a team of Warehouse Associates, providing guidance, training and workplace assistance. Promote company policies and procedures, and model company values
- Operations Coordination: Allocate warehouse activities (e.g. picking, packing, staging, loading etc.); coordinate labour requests for other departments as required; effectively prepare for shift, and hand off duties to the next shift, ensuring the next shift set up for success. Co-ordinate and prepare and required end of shift reporting, ensure orders are processed and loaded on time and accurately, resolve work-related issues to maintain customer order integrity and accuracy.
- Communication: Maintain clear and effective communication with the warehouse team, management and other departments to ensure smooth operations. Investigate problems to improve warehouse processes and provide sufficient response to customer’s requests
- Warehouse Maintenance: Maintain and ensure a clean, organized, and safe work environment by following and promoting company policies and safety procedures and ensuring and a clean as you go mentality
- Assume Associate Role: Provide support to the warehouse team by assuming duties of warehouse associates as required to meet productivity targets and maintain team morale
- Other Duties as Assigned: As a member of the team, there may be other tasks assigned that aren’t listed above
Recommended Qualifications:
Knowledge/Skill/Ability Requirements:
- Leadership skills and the ability to work well in a team environment, and model the character qualities listed above
- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Strong English verbal communication skills
- Basic math functions
- Good English reading and writing skills
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to operate warehouse equipment (reach truck, forklift etc) safely and efficiently
- Ability to use computer software programs such as WMS system, Microsoft products etc.
Experience & Education:
- Previous warehouse and leadership experience
- High School or equivalent
- MHE Certification required or the ability to obtain within three months of employment. On-site training will be provided if required by the position
Physical Demands/ Working Conditions:
- This position involves standing, walking, and lifting for extended periods
- Position requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance
- This position may be required to assist in any role in the warehouse as needed to meet productivity targets
- Position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle high-pressure situations calmly and effectively
