Job Summary

The Technician, Trails position is responsible for construction, maintenance, and the repair of District trails and trailheads.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 21 years of age or older with a valid U.S. driver’s license.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One (1) year of experience in the maintenance and construction of trails, or a related field.

The successful applicant must pass a required pre-employment background check, MVR, drug test, and subsequent mandatory checks in accordance with current District policy requirements.

Preferred but not required:

  • Knowledge of the trail network in the greater Park City area, specifically trails within the Snyderville Basin.

Essential Functions

The following duties and responsibilities are intended to be representative of the work performed by the incumbent(s) in this position and are not all-inclusive.   • Perform maintenance duties on backcountry, soft surface, urban trails, and trailheads as assigned.
  • Coordinate regularly with Trails Supervisor on day-to-day operations.
  • Assist in constructing trails and other special projects.
  • Coordinate, maintain, inspect, and keep track of the Mutt Mitt stations throughout the trail system.
  • Assist with the maintenance and minor repairs of tools and equipment.
  • Assist with trailhead building maintenance and custodial needs.
  • Assist in noxious weed management using mechanical, chemical, and biological methods.
  • Perform snow removal operations on trails, parking lots, sidewalks, and facilities.
  • Assist in winter snow removal operations and trail grooming.
  • Assist with the inventory and maintenance of signs along trails and trailheads.
  • Interface with the public on trail closures, maintenance issues, and educational information.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

Knowledge of:

  • Contemporary trail construction and maintenance techniques for all trail types.
  • Basic principles of managing and monitoring a seasonal staff.
  • Outdoor environment in the Rocky Mountain region.
  • GPS instruments.
  • Related OSHA safety standards, current Safety Data Sheet (SDS) procedures, and bloodborne pathogens.

Skill and Ability to:

  • Operate hand tools, power tools, and light equipment in a skilled and safe manner.
  • Communicate and coordinate Trails activities to teams, other agencies, and the public.
  • Work independently with limited supervision or collaborate with a team.
  • Follow verbal and written communication.
  • Perform all duties with safety as a top priority.

Working Conditions and Aptitudes

  • Duties are performed indoors and outdoors, including working in inclement weather, extreme temperatures, and over steep terrain.
  • Manual dexterity and coordination; high degree of spatial awareness and mental and visual alertness.
  • Occasional exposure to hazardous chemicals, vibrations, and fumes.
  • Work effectively with crowds and uncooperative individuals, difficult situations, emergencies, or periods of continuous demand.
  • Operation of motor vehicles on public roadways and trails.
  • Travel to and from sites, facilities, and other locations within the District; transport materials as needed.
  • Work a variety of shifts including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays depending on program needs.
  • May require emergency call-out.

Physical Requirements

  • Equal or less than 25% | Sitting.
  • Equal or less than 75% | Standing.
  • Equal or less than 50% | Walking, bending, and other physical exertion.
  • Equal or less than 25% | Pushing, pulling, and kneeling.
  • Equal or less than 50% | Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted.

Salary Description

$51,191.84 - $63,989.80
