Structural Steel Project Manager

Job Title: Structural Steel Project Manager
Location: Richmond, VA
Job Type: Direct Hire
Shift: 1st Shift
Salary: Up to $85,000, depending on experience

Travel: 10 to 15 percent local travel required, with mileage reimbursement

Position Overview

Manage structural steel fabrication and erection projects from initiation through completion, ensuring alignment with schedules, budgets, and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review and interpret structural drawings, shop drawings, and specifications to define project scope and requirements
  • Coordinate with fabrication shops, detailers, field crews, and general contractors to support efficient execution
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, tracking progress and adjusting as needed to meet deadlines
  • Oversee procurement and tracking of materials and components to support timelines
  • Monitor project costs, manage budgets, and provide accurate forecasting
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA standards and internal safety policies
  • Conduct site visits, lead meetings, and resolve field-related issues such as fit-up and sequencing
  • Manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, and project documentation
  • Identify and resolve fabrication, scheduling, and installation challenges
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience managing structural steel fabrication or erection projects
  • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and specifications
  • Knowledge of structural steel processes and industry standards such as AWS and AISC
  • Experience coordinating with fabrication teams, field crews, and subcontractors
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Experience managing budgets and project costs
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and scheduling tools
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities
  • Strong problem-solving skills in fast-paced environments
  • Understanding of OSHA regulations and jobsite safety practices
  • Experience with Tekla Structures or Tekla PowerFab is a plus
