Manager of Facilities and Safety - Melrose Park, IL

Salary = $60,000 annually

JOB SUMMARY: Under the general direction of the Director of Facilities Management & Safety and Director of Residential Operations Melrose Park, The Manager of Facilities & Safety MP provides direction, oversight and supervision of the Hope School’s Melrose Park maintenance team; oversees the regular and ongoing upkeep of the local facility grounds, equipment and machinery; ensures properties are maintained to meet building codes, safety standards and quality expectations as well as ensuring the energy, effectiveness, accessibility and functionality of each building as well as Hope’s equipment, fleet and machinery and works to provide a physical environment for employees and guests that is as safe and secure as possible.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Plans, supervises, and evaluates the work of the maintenance staff required for around-the-clock operation of Melrose Park building facilities.
  2. Interviews, selects and oversees the training of all new maintenance team members; conducts probationary, annual and as needed performance evaluations that are timely and constructive in accordance with Hope policies.
  3. Evaluates reliability and work quality of maintenance and custodial staff; acts upon poor quality work through direct communication with maintenance and custodial staff and following union procedures for coaching, counseling, and progressive discipline when necessary; thoroughly documents all coaching and disciplinary conversations; handles discipline and termination of employees as needed and in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.
  4. Conducts routine inspection reports that include interior condition as well as all major components of property including foundation, exterior walls, electrical network, etc.; conducts walk through safety checks and reports on concerns or deficiencies as needed.
  5. Confers with program directors and other agency staff to determine building use, needs and general policies as it relates to maintenance issues and work orders; provides ongoing communication related to progress of work orders and ongoing programmatic facilities or safety needs.
  6. Assists the Director of Facilities & Safety in planning and maintaining a preventative maintenance program for all buildings, grounds and systems located in Melrose Park.
  7. Manages the work ticket system and procedures; reviews and analyzes the data for quality and efficiency metrics.
  8. Implements the policies and procedures related to workplace incidents as they pertain to facilities and safety; provides follow up as necessary and debriefs with appropriate personnel for future incidents.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Maintains maintenance schedules for equipment and machinery on a weekly, monthly, and annual basis.
  2. Assumes responsibility as a mandated report concerning incidents of purported abuse/neglect of students as outlined in the agency’s policies and procedures.
  3. Performs other duties as required or assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is performed primarily in an indoor environment, free from extreme weather conditions. On occasion this position may work outdoors focusing on groundskeeping or exterior repairs. This position may be subject to hazardous situations or may require working with hazardous equipment; may require exposure to machine sounds and noises that are distracting, loud or uncomfortable. This position may work with contaminants often such as oils, solvents and paints and may require accessing high places such as roofs or use of ladders; this position will require the regular use of PPE that may include, but not be limited to work gloves, eye goggles, face masks, sturdy boots or ear safety. Work may include close physical interactions or proximity to others and the requirement to drive or travel to ancillary site locations.

PHYSICAL REQURIEMENTS:

The Manager of Facilities and Safety require the ability to traverse property and facilities to diagnose building issues and plan repairs or maintenance; the ability to physically perform or assist with repairs when needed. This position may be subject to prolonged periods of sit-down work at a desk and working on a computer as well as prolonged periods of walking, standing and traveling to various work sites as needed; Must be able to lift, push, pull and carry a minimum of 25 pounds at a time.

Demonstrated technical skill and knowledge of building codes and regulations

Skill in cultural competency and the ability to communicate effectively in a culturally sensitive manner with both individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds.

TRAINING, ACADEMIC AND EXPERIENTIAL REQURIEMENTS:

A bachelor’s degree in facilities management or related area; relevant work experience may be a substitute. Qualified candidates must possess a minimum of two (2) years’ experience managing teams and must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Technical skills in maintenance trades including construction, carpentry, plumbing, electricity, and

HVAC are preferred.
