Position Description:
The Registrar will be a critical member of Alamo Trust, Inc.s Collections team and will contribute to the documentation and care of the Alamos artifact collection. This position will assist with the processing, movement, exhibition preparation, and stewardship of artifacts, ensuring adherence of professional standards and best practices for collections. This individual will play a key role in supporting the exhibition, loan, and long-term preservation initiatives of ATI Collections and collaborate with exhibition and research staff.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Create and maintain accurate and complete collections records in the collections management system, including thorough condition reporting, tracking of artifact movements, documentation of ownership, photographing, and provenance.Assist with researching and updating backlog records and data entry.Assist in the documentation and processing of acquisitions and loans, ensuring all files/records are up to date.Prepare artifacts for exhibition, loans, conservation, and photography, including condition reporting, packing, and handling coordination.Experience in evaluating artifact condition, researching and recommending treatment where necessary.Monitor and improve collections storage conditions to meet preservation standards.Assist in inventories and audits to ensure security and safekeeping of the collection.Contribute to the development and revision of collections policies, procedures, and workflows.Ability to flexibly embrace changes with this position due to departmental priorities and/or for cross-training purposes. Ability to lift/carry 50 lbs.Ability to climb ladders.Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time, and to lift, push, and/or pull heavy, fragile, and/or odd-shaped objects carefully and safely.
Ability to visually inspect artwork and artifacts.

QUALIFICATIONS
Masters degree in Museum Studies, Public History, Library Science, History, or closely related field is preferred.5-7 years of progressively responsible experience in registration or other closely related fieldKnowledge of museum standards and practices of registration, record keeping, and other related subjects.Experience in Collections Management Systems and Digital Asset Management software. Experience with Argus and Preservica a plus.Excellent written and oral communication skills.Excellent computer skills, proficiency in Excel.Demonstratable ability to assess priorities and work well under pressure.Excellent time management, problem solving, and analytical skills.Highly organized, self-directed, and with strong attention to detail.Ability to work with curators, donors, vendors, other museum professionals, the public and co-workers professionally and tactfully.We are an equal opportunity employer.
