Description:

This position is for the 26-27 School Year with a start date of August 10th. The Connect Academy is an organization with multiple campuses. All campuses have open positions posted for the next year. Connect Academy Carol Stream is a PreK-8 building servicing students with challenging, sometimes aggressive behaviors. The High School campus is located in Addison. The Lombard location serves PreK-3 students with autism who are nonverbal/minimally verbal as a bridge to public elementary school. ReConnect serves general education students as an alternative setting, often in lieu of expulsion. All provide comprehensive therapeutic services to address social-emotional and functional needs to support access to learning in addition to standards-based academics. P.E. Teacher Job Description

Mission: The mission of our program is to provide our students with a high quality of education that offers instruction in both academic and social/emotional realms. The purpose of the academy is to provide students with social/emotional/behavioral issues a state-of-the-art therapeutic day program. Through hands-on instructional experiences, as well as a therapeutic approach in art, music, and movement, the program is designated to meet all of the needs of this diverse student population.

Job Summary: The physical education teacher designs and implements physical education programs that promote physical health, motor skills development, teamwork, and positive social interactions for students. They create a structured, inclusive, and supportive environment where students can engage in physical activity while also learning self-regulation, cooperation, and resilience. Collaborating with educational and clinical staff, the physical education teacher tailors activities to meet individual needs and IEP goals, helping students build confidence, reduce stress, and develop lifelong healthy habits.

Essential functions of the job may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Plan and instruct physical education classes aligned to Illinois Learning Standards for Physical Development and Health with emphasis on physical fitness, gross motor skills, perceptual motor skills and sports and games achievement.
  • Modify all teaching methods and materials to meet individual student needs.
  • Employ various teaching techniques, methods and principles of learning to enable students to meet their IEP goals, including following the Behavior Intervention Plans.
  • Participate in the IEP process as appropriate, including development of goals and objectives.
  • Administer fitness assessments.
  • Work cooperatively with team members and others in developing instructional goals and strategies.
  • Create a positive learning experience with emphasis in individualized instruction.
  • Provide direction, supervision and evaluation of educational assistants in the P.E. environment.
  • Complete all school and state reporting requirements, including reports detailing student performance.
  • Document lesson plans.
  • Attend training sessions or professional meetings to develop or maintain professional knowledge.
  • Other duties, as assigned.
