Server Assistant/Floor Support Job Description


The Server Assistant/Floor Support is responsible for ensuring that every guest that dines with The Cake Bake Shop has “a magical and one of a kind experience” that will keep them coming back again and again. Servers Assistant/Floor Support must have a deep knowledge about Cake Bake Shop products to explain any ingredients, allergen warnings, and dietary restrictions; participate in suggestive selling and deliver all food and drinks to guests within the dining room.

Server Assistant/Floor Support Responsibilities – Tip-Producing Tasks
  • Greet guests warmly and provide an elevated, polished dining experience.

  • Deliver food, beverages, and desserts to guests in assigned sections.

  • Engage guests in professional, brand-aligned conversation; use formal language and “on brand” phrasing.

  • Greet guests warmly when assisting at tables and respond promptly to immediate guest needs.

  • Deliver food promptly and accurately to guests in the dining room and bar area.

  • Announce dishes professionally and ensure correct placement at tables.

  • Deliver water, bread, beverages, or small guest requests when servers are unavailable.

  • Assist servers with running food, beverages, and desserts to support uninterrupted guest service.

  • Support celebrations, special moments, and guest-experience enhancements as directed.

  • Maintain awareness of guest comfort, cleanliness, and service needs throughout the dining room.

  • Present menus, explain menu items, ingredients, preparation methods, and inform guests of daily specials.

  • Make menu recommendations and perform suggestive selling.

  • Describe and recommend wines; present wine selections with appropriate glassware and pour wine for guests.

  • Prepare and serve hot, cold, and mixed drinks.

  • Garnish and decorate dishes or beverages in preparation for serving.

  • Monitor guest satisfaction, respond to requests promptly, and resolve issues immediately.

  • Process payments, prepare itemized receipts including sales tax, provide receipts, and thank guests for visiting.

  • Check guest identification to verify legal age for alcohol service.

  • Maintain awareness of allergen and dietary accommodations.

  • Communicate guest needs, service issues, or concerns to management immediately.

  • Escort guests to tables when assisting hosts or during peak service periods.

  • Check with guests regarding the application of rewards or discounts.

  • Provide guests with basic local information or directions when requested.

  • Maintain a polished and clean uniform consistent with company standards.

  • Adhere to all Steps of Service: greeting, timing, glitter, offerings, celebrations, and retail engagement.

Sidework Responsibilities – Tip-Supporting Tasks

All tip-supporting tasks are secondary to tip-producing service and must be time-limited.
These activities directly support guest service but are not tip-producing on their own.

  • Stock and prepare coffee, tea, milk, cream, bottled beverages, condiments, and garnishes.

  • Brew coffee and tea; cut fruit (lemons, limes) for beverage service.

  • Clean soda machines, espresso equipment, and server stations.

  • Wash and polish glassware, silverware, and utensils used for guest service.

  • Set and reset tables; align chairs; fold napkins; replenish table settings.

  • Remove used dishes and glassware from tables and counters and transport them to designated cleaning areas.

  • Restocking linens from the shed.

  • Wipe tables, chairs, booths, and condiment areas.

  • Actively pre-bus tables during service by removing used dishes, glassware, and utensils.

  • Reset tables promptly after guest departure to support efficient seating flow.

  • Communicate table readiness to hosts to maintain timely seating.

  • Assist with expo setup and service station readiness during shifts.

  • Monitor order timing and assist with communication between kitchen and FOH teams.

  • Carry trays, dishes, and serviceware between kitchen and dining areas.

  • Maintain cleanliness of guest-facing areas throughout the dining room during service.

  • Sweep guest areas, wipe chairs, and maintain floor cleanliness as needed during service.

  • Perform front-walk, patio, and entryway checks for debris during shifts.

  • Assist with light restroom upkeep during service hours.

  • Keep dish, glassware, and silverware racks stocked for service.

  • Remove trash from service areas and replace liners.

  • Transport linens to and from laundry areas as needed.

  • Assist with putting away inventory or restocking items delivered to the dining room.

  • Restock to-go packaging, linens, napkins, and service items.

  • Fill salt, pepper, sugar, cream, condiment, and napkin containers.

  • Stock service areas, including credenzas with supplies such as coffee, food, tableware, and linens.

  • Perform cleaning duties, such as sweeping and mopping floors, tidying up server stations, taking out trash, or checking and cleaning bathrooms.

  • Perform food preparation duties, such as preparing salads, appetizers, and cold dishes, portioning desserts, and brewing coffee.

  • Prepare hot, cold, and mixed drinks for guests, and chill bottles of wine

  • Dust décor, wipe down display surfaces, and plug in decorative LED lamps.

  • Maintain cleanliness and readiness of the service area throughout the shift.

  • Perform sweeping or spot mopping within the immediate service area.

  • Refill sanitizer bottles and other essential service supplies.

  • Assist hosts by taking reservations or to-go orders, greeting, seating, and thank guests as needed.

Excluded Tasks (Non-Tipped Work)

The following activities are not part of the tipped occupation. If assigned, they will be treated and compensated as a separate, non-tipped position at the full applicable minimum wage:

  • Deep cleaning (e.g., scrubbing floors, walls, hoods, or restrooms).

  • Dishwashing or back-of-house prep unrelated to immediate guest service.

  • Marketing, administrative, or clerical work.

  • Any maintenance or event setup not directly related to guest dining service.

  • Cleaning or polishing walls, shelving, furniture, or equipment beyond immediate service-area upkeep.

  • Vacuuming or performing extensive floor care beyond limited spot cleaning in service areas.

  • Cleaning restrooms beyond light, guest-facing checks (e.g., scrubbing, sanitizing, or restocking as a primary task).

  • Carrying linens to or from laundry areas as a primary responsibility.

  • Stocking refrigeration units, storage rooms, or supply areas unrelated to immediate service needs.

  • Preparing full food items (e.g., sandwiches, hot dishes) outside of limited service-support food preparation.

  • Mixing or preparing alcoholic beverages beyond incidental table-side service support.

  • Replenishing steam tables, service bars, or production areas as a primary function.

  • Performing inventory counts, ordering supplies, or requisitioning products.

  • Performing duties primarily associated with other roles (e.g., host, cashier, dishwasher, cook, or janitorial staff).

Timekeeping and Pay
  • Server Assistant/Floor Support must accurately record all hours worked through the timekeeping system.

  • All time spent on non-tip-producing or non-tip-supporting tasks must be recorded separately and paid at the full minimum wage without tip credit.

  • Off-the-clock work is strictly prohibited.

  • Manager approval is required for any extended sidework or shift extensions.

  • The Company takes a tip credit toward meeting minimum wage for hours worked in the tipped occupation, consistent with federal and state law.

  • Server Assistant/Floor Support may participate in an approved tip pool, subject to the Company’s tip pooling policy.

  • Server Assistant/Floor Support are paid overtime at the applicable regular rate, with the correct tip credit applied for straight-time hours as required by law.

Position Requirements

  • Prior experience in fine dining or upscale service strongly preferred.

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.

  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

  • Professional appearance and adherence to company grooming standards.

  • Accuracy when handling money and operating a point-of-sale system.

  • Ability to stand, walk, and carry trays for extended periods.
