Accountabilities:
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance applications using Synon/Cool 2E on IBM i (AS/400) platforms supporting pharmacy claims systems
  • Design and optimize COBOL programs, batch processes, and high-volume transaction workflows
  • Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve complex production issues to ensure system stability and performance
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to translate healthcare and PBM requirements into technical solutions
  • Support and improve systems related to claims adjudication, eligibility, benefits, and pharmacy operations
  • Participate in system integration efforts, including data exchanges via EDI, APIs, and downstream systems
  • Conduct code reviews and promote development standards, best practices, and technical consistency
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior developers and team members
  • Contribute to or lead modernization initiatives for legacy system transformation
Requirements:
  • 7+ years of hands-on experience with Synon development in enterprise environments
  • Strong expertise in COBOL programming and IBM i (AS/400) systems
  • Proven experience working with high-volume transaction and batch processing systems
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex production issues in mission-critical environments
  • Experience working in healthcare or PBM systems (claims, eligibility, benefits) is highly desirable
  • Strong understanding of system integration and data exchange methods (EDI, APIs, etc.)
  • Ability to lead technical initiatives and mentor engineering teams
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills
  • Familiarity with compliance requirements such as HIPAA is a plus
  • Comfortable working in hybrid environments with occasional onsite and meeting participation requirements
