About This Position

HIM Specialist

Under the direction of the Director of HIM plans, coordinates, implements, and maintains the HIM Information System.

Build and maintain on-line templates for all users of the Med Ex system.

Support the HIM Management and Compliance program focusing on a variety compliance audits and OIG screening tools to achieving desired outcomes.

Assist the Managers with payroll responsibilities.

Maintain departmental records and reports specifically those related to compliance with regulatory bodies.

Using established guidelines and proper software, initiate, compose, word process, and edit a variety of reports, letters, minutes, spreadsheets and other documents.

Open, sort, review and distribute incoming mail.

Schedule and arrange conferences and meetings (i.e., sends meeting notices, schedules facility space, assure other supplies are available as needed, arrange refreshments, etc.), and make travel arrangements as requested.

Take, prepare, distribute and archive all meeting minutes for regulatory and record keeping purposes for multiple hospital committees.

Maintain Administrative Director calendars on the P.C. as assigned, and informs executives of non-routine meetings in a timely manner.

Complete duplication and collation of materials and files master copy.

Organize and complete assigned special projects and reports.

Prepare special assignments as required.

  • Strong analytical/creative problem solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate well with multiple clinical and non-clinical staff members from throughout the institution.
  • Must have basic computer skills and ability to access internet and other programs applicable to Waterbury Hospital procedures.

· Ability to use computer for word processing, spreadsheets and related software.

· Ability to maintain confidentiality.

· Familiarity with the hospital organization and administrative policies and procedures.

· Associates Degree or equivalent experience

· HIM degree or 2 years experience preferred.
