Role Overview

The Medical Assistant/LVN – Pre-Procedure & Recovery plays a critical role in supporting both the preparation and recovery phases of pain management procedures. This position is responsible for ensuring patients are properly prepared prior to procedures and safely monitored post-procedure, with a strong emphasis on patient safety, accurate documentation, and clinical efficiency.

This role works closely with providers and the sedation nurse to deliver a seamless patient experience, from intake through discharge, while maintaining compliance with all clinical and documentation standards.

Key Responsibilities

Pre-Procedure Support

  • Review patient charts in advance to ensure all required documentation is complete, including medical history, allergies, medications, and procedure orders
  • Verify completion of preoperative requirements such as labs, imaging, authorizations, and clearances
  • Prepare patients for procedures by obtaining and documenting vital signs, confirming NPO status, and reviewing allergies
  • Perform point-of-care testing as needed, including pregnancy testing and blood glucose checks
  • Establish IV access using proper sterile technique and maintain IV supplies according to protocol
  • Ensure all consent forms and required documentation are complete prior to the procedure
  • Communicate any abnormalities or concerns to the provider or sedation nurse promptly
  • Provide clear, compassionate communication to patients to reduce anxiety and ensure understanding of the procedure process

Recovery & Post-Procedure Care

  • Monitor patients during the recovery phase, including vital signs, level of consciousness, and overall stability
  • Assist patients transitioning from procedure to recovery and ensure they meet discharge criteria
  • Document all recovery observations accurately in the EMR
  • Complete and close all procedure-related orders, including entering performed dates and verifying chart completeness
  • Conduct post-procedure follow-up calls to assess patient recovery, address concerns, and document outcomes
  • Escalate any complications or abnormal findings to the provider or clinical leadership immediately

Clinical Support & Operations

  • Assist providers and sedation nurses as needed throughout the clinical workflow
  • Maintain clean, organized, and fully stocked pre-procedure and recovery areas
  • Ensure all monitoring and emergency equipment is functional and properly maintained
  • Support compliance with clinical protocols, safety standards, and documentation requirements
Requirements:

Qualifications & Skills

  • Medical Assistant or LVN license/certification required
  • Experience with IV insertion and sterile technique preferred
  • Strong knowledge of vital sign monitoring and post-procedure observation standards
  • Proficiency in EMR documentation and chart management
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Strong communication and patient care skills
  • Ability to travel between multiple clinic locations as needed
