Phlebotomist (26-404) at Artesia General Hospital – Artesia, New Mexico

Job Summary:

Receives, obtains and processes specimens for laboratory analysis on all patient age groups.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Collect and process venous and capillary samples from all patient age groups.
• Perform and document therapeutic phlebotomies.
• Document and record samples/results.
• Accession and process referral testing samples.
• Maintain records, files and route patient reports.
• Perform clerical duties as assigned.
• Participate and promote QA activities.

• As assigned.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILL/ABILITIES:

• Phlebotomy skill and competency.

AGE-RELATED COMPETENCIES: Demonstrates the basic knowledge and skills necessary to identify age-specific patient needs appropriate for this position.

Risk Management/Quality Management/Safety: Cooperates fully in all Risk Management, Quality Management, and Safety Activities and Investigations.

MINIMUM POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

• Education – High school graduate or equivalent; formal phlebotomy training preferred.
• Work Experience – 6 months phlebotomy preferred.
• Training – N/A
• License/Certification – Certified Phlebotomist, CMA, EMT-B preferred.

ENVIROMENTAL CONDITIONS: Work environment consists of daily patient contact, which may include exposure to blood, or other body fluids.
