Position Summary

The Town of Southington is seeking a dependable and community-focused individual to serve as a Community Service Driver / Food Pantry Assistant. This part-time position supports the daily operations of the Southington Community Food Pantry by assisting with donation pick-ups, organizing food supplies, and ensuring the pantry remains clean, organized, and accessible for residents in need. This role requires physical activity and regular interaction with community partners and volunteers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Drive to various locations to pick up food and supply donations.
  • Load, unload, and transport donated items safely, including items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Assist with organizing, stocking, and rotating food pantry inventory.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of pantry storage areas.
  • Assist with preparation and distribution of food to clients, as needed.
  • Coordinate with Community Services staff and volunteers to support pantry operations.
  • Follow all safety procedures, food handling guidelines, and Town policies.
  • Perform related duties as assigned to support community service programs.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to work in a storage or pantry environment with varying temperatures.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Reliable, punctual, and community-oriented.
  • Ability to interact professionally and compassionately with the public.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in food pantry, warehouse, delivery, or community service settings.
  • Knowledge of basic food safety and handling practices.
