Staff Nurse

Position Summary
- Assumes responsibility for assessment of needs for nursing care and evaluation of nursing care objectives for patients during their stay in the endoscopy unit. Provides nursing care which is comprehensive, individualized and patient centered. Participates in patient family teaching and provides leadership by working with ancillary nursing and other patient team personnel in maintaining standards for professional nursing practice in endoscopy.
Education
- Associate Degree in Nursing - Required
Experience
- 1 Year Medical surgical experience. - Required
- 1-2 Years Endocsopy expirence - Preferred
License & Certification
- Registered Nurse License with State of Practice - Required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – Required
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) - Required in 6 months of hire
Core Job Functions
- Familiarization with dosage, route of administration, action and side effects of medications commonly used in the endoscopy department.
- Communicates using SBAR when changes in the patient status occurs during perioperative phases. Provides thorough hand off report during all transitions of patient care. Reviews medical record for pertinent test results and communicates to anesthesia and surgeon.
- Effectively uses the nursing process to care for patients in the perioperative setting as needed.
- Under the direction of the physician, the RN administers ordered perioperative medications.
- Implement AORN standards of care using best practice. Implement hospital policies and procedures.
- Provide excellent patient care. Keeps family informed. Rounds on team and assists as needed.
- Documents and scans all refill requests, new prescriptions, phone calls, laboratory and diagnostic results, medical equipment/supply orders, referrals, notifications, problems, appointments, contact information, and medical records to the EMR
