Your future position
Kpler is looking for a Coal Analyst to join our Dry Bulk Insight team, reporting to the Lead Coal, Petcoke and Cement Insight Analyst. You will play a pivotal role in expanding our analytical coverage of thermal fuels and dry bulk markets, combining data expertise with commodity market understanding. This role offers the opportunity to conduct independent research, build supply/demand models, and develop insights that help clients navigate complex coal, petcoke, and thermal fuel markets. You will be encouraged to take initiative in directing your own research and confidently present your findings to internal and external stakeholders.
Your mission is to:- Conduct independent research to identify major trends and dynamics in coal, petcoke, and thermal fuel markets.
- Build, maintain, and quality-assure fundamentals datasets that underpin market analysis
- Utilize Kpler and external data sources to produce market-driven, independent analyses of current and projected market trends
- Develop and refine supply/demand models using Python for forecasting and scenario analysis
- Collaborate with the Dry Bulk business unit to support product development and expand commodity market coverage
- Present research findings clearly to internal teams and external clients/stakeholders
- Take ownership of analytical projects, including those in ambiguous or emerging areas
- Deep knowledge of coal, gas, and power markets
- High competency in using Excel
- Experience using Python libraries for data formatting and forecasting
- Strong track record of conducting research on niche topics and producing insightful written analysis
- Proven ability to take ownership and excel in execution, particularly in ambiguous situations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English - Proficiency in Mandarin, Japanese or Korean would be a plus
Desirable experience
- Experience in commodity research, trading, consulting, or analytics roles
- Familiarity with supply/demand modeling methodologies
- Network of industry contacts in coal, petcoke, or thermal fuel markets
- Experience presenting complex analysis to diverse audiences
