Nurse Tech Job Summary
The Nurse Tech position provides nursing students an opportunity to assist licensed nursing personnel in the implementation of day-to-day patient care as well as the routine operations of the nursing unit which assigned. The Nurse Tech provides care to the patients appropriate to the assigned unit.
Emergency Department Cluster Description
Emergency Department Nurse Tech supports patient care by assisting nurses and ED Specialty Techs. Duties include obtaining vital signs, performing EKGs, assisting with procedures, transporting patients, drawing labs, starting IV's, stocking supplies, and helping maintain patient flow. This role requires strong teamwork, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. The type of patients served range from all ages, pediatric to geriatric, as well as multiple conditions, such as trauma patients, cardiac and respiratory patients, behavioral health patients, and low to moderate acuity medical patients.

Emergency Department Skills, Duties, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Input data in computer and programs.
- Maintain a professional appearance at all times.
- Ability to handle confidential information.
- The following skills are demonstrated in an Emergency Department. The nursing student's level in their nursing program will determine the scope of skills they can perform:
- IV insertion, care and removal
- Lab draw and specimen collection
- NG/OG insertion and care
- Foley catheter insertion, care and removal
- External urinary catheter application and care
- Orthopedic splint application
- Crutch fitting and teaching
- Wound care
- POC testing
- Set up for procedures
- EKGs
- Assist with codes including: STEMI, Stroke, Trauma and CPR
- Stock unit
- Documentation of interventions and vital signs
- And more!
Required Licenses
- CPR: BLS certification through the AHA
Minimum Education
- Must be a nursing student entering 2nd through 4th semester of nursing school
Work Experience
- No previous work experience required
