Summary

The Design & Manufacturing Technician’s responsibilities include designing robotic, inspection, and manufacturing fixturing. Will assist heavily in designing quality standards, inspecting materials, equipment, processes, and products, developing quality control systems, and determining corrective actions. You will also work with managers and supervisors to implement quality measures.

Ensure overall product quality and the follow through of daily quality procedures to meet the product standards and requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • A successful Design and Manufacturing Technician should have excellent troubleshooting skills and be able to ensure that processes and products consistently meet established production standards.
  • Models standardized parts and assemblies in SolidWorks and produces design outputs including manufacturing prints.
  • Collaborates with the engineering, quality, & production teams to address and resolve any design-related challenges.
  • Maintains accurate records of design changes and updates throughout the project lifecycle.
  • CAD Drafting & Modeling: Developing detailed drawings, 3D models, and assemblies for components, structures, or site layouts.
  • Design Support: Assisting engineers with design calculations, data collection, and troubleshooting.
  • Documentation: Preparing technical documentation, project records, and bills of materials (BOMs).
  • Collaboration: Coordinating with architects, engineers, and project managers to ensure design accuracy.
  • Inspection & Fieldwork: Conducting site visits to verify fabricated components align with issued drawings, or performing fieldwork in various weather conditions.
  • Communicates progress and results as required, ensuring an on-going training discipline to maintain improvements.
  • Has an intermediate to advanced understanding of engineering principles as they relate to Continuous Improvement and robotic, production, and quality fixture design.
  • Coordinate and implement quality control objective activities, or procedures to resolve production problems, maximize product reliability, or minimize costs.
  • Develops robust processes for control of quality with aim of providing avenue for continuous improvement in quality and productivity.
  • Performing GAP analysis on reducing the cycle times & improving the productivity.
  • Knowledge and understanding of GD&T (ASME Y14.5)
  • Verifies non-conforming items are corrected prior to release for shipment.
  • May provide training to other employee’s inspection and/or test procedures.
  • Inspects, labels and returns both select incoming and manufactured parts.
  • May be required to participate in small group improvement activity teams, daily team meeting.
  • Complies with the requirements of the company’s ISO 9001 Quality Management System (when required).
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, climb, bend, stoop, and kneel on a regular basis.
  • Regular manual dexterity/coordination: hand/eye movements, motor control.
  • Regular visual effort: concentrated reading of documentation or close viewing of computer displays.
  • Ability to work in a factory environment with exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, heavy equipment and machinery.
  • Able to push, pull and lift up to 50lbs. on an occasional basis.

Potential Hazards

  • Employee may be exposed to hazardous substances including a variety of petroleum- based products, cleaning solvents, etc. on a regular basis.
  • Employee may be exposed to sharp (cutting) tools on a regular basis.

  • CMM Romer Arm experience (Hexagon Inspire Software preferred)

Required Education/Experience/Skills

  • Associates/Technical Degree or certification in Quality, Industrial, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent education and experience
  • Background in mechanical design and CAD drafting.
  • 3-5 years of experience in engineering or manufacturing.
  • Experience with SolidWorks or another 3D CAD package.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes including cutting, welding, and machining of steel.
  • Intermediate computer knowledge including e-mail, Word, and Excel software.
  • Good communication skills and a willingness to learn.
  • Ability to collaborate with personnel of a variety of backgrounds, experience levels, and job functions.
  • Self-starting, assertive, knowledgeable, inquisitive, teachable, professional, and ethical.

Preferred Education/Experience/Skills

  • Use of inspection tools to include rulers, tape measures, precision squares, micrometers, calipers, tools and gauges, both analog and digital.
  • Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings that can be interpreted for developing inspection plans or first article inspections.
  • Required to drive forklift trucks and operate overhead cranes.
  • Ensuring compliance with quality standards, industry regulations, and customer requirements.
  • Maintaining accurate records of inspections, tests, and other quality-related activities
  • CMM Romer Arm programming and inspection.
  • Hexagon Inspire Software (CMM).
  • Ability to meet deadlines; to understand and follow both written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, solve problems, and complete tasks independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with supervisors, members of management, vendors, and other employees.
  • Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry and their applications, including metric system.
