About This Position
Summary/Objective
Greets patients at registration desks and verifies patient’s address and phone number, updating emergency contact information to include guarantor and addresses (i.e., seasonal, parents, etc.) as well as Meaningful Use information.
Essential Functions
Verifies demographics and performs a complete patient search to avoid duplicate patients. Provides questionnaires and/or appropriate forms to patients according to physician/provider protocols. Review forms to make sure they are correctly completed by the patient. Prepares patients appropriately for the examination (i.e., changing into gowns, providing barium, etc)
Accurately verifies payment sources are entered into Epic
Distribute paperwork to Nurse for IV patients, CT box for techs, and Ultrasound Xpress Care to Ultrasound techs.
Monitors lobby to ensure patients are not waiting excessive amounts of time and courteously advise patients of wait times when physicians/providers run behind. Arrives patients in a timely manner. Monitors reading material maintained in the lobby, removing any items with inappropriate content. Keep the lobby neat and clean throughout the day.
Proportionately handle incoming calls.
Schedule, cancel, and reschedule appointments accurately following physician, provider, desk, and location protocols including Xpress Care, Ultrasounds, CT, X-ray, and Outside scripts. Proportionately arrive scheduled appointments. Runs report sets as applicable. Check authorization on Epic prior to scheduling routine appointments.
Communicates with MCRS department via email to verify authorizations for STAT orders in a timely manner. Screenshot to be sent to Edge-MCRS.
Email MCRS regarding pending authorizations for the following day. Call patients to reschedule if authorization has not been obtained. Prepare screening forms for the next day.
Print CD’s as requested – take to the check–in desk for later pick-ups.
Collects payments using appropriate payment codes and issue receipts. Follows PFS collection comments. Closes batch accurately and prior to leaving for the day, depositing in designated area.
Keep track of exams ordered “Do without Auth” and send to Carlos monthly.

Lobby where patients approach desk
Walk to copier and providers’ boxes and occasionally offices
Must have good hearing and vision to utilize computer and phone system
Must have appropriate math skills to collect co-pays and make change
Must be able to sit for long/extended periods of time
Must be able to get up and down from chair/stool with ability to walk to equipment and offices
Ability to use computer keyboard, mouse, credit card machine, card scanner
Utilize phone system
Travel
No travel is expected for this position other than occasional travel to corporate sites regarding employee relations issues.
Required Education and Experience
High school graduate or equivalent (GED or 4 years medical experience may be equivalent).
Preferred Education and Experience
Prefer knowledge of medical terminology.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
1+ years experience within medical/insurance environment; Medical terminology and/or knowledge in the medical field; 2-3 years of customer service.
