As a Facility Maintenance Technician, you’ll help maintain and improve City buildings that residents and employees rely on every day. From repairs to small renovations, your work will directly support safe, functional, and well-maintained public spaces across Chesapeake.

What You’ll Do as a Facility Maintenance Technician
  • Perform structural maintenance and light construction work
  • Install, repair, and replace locks and door hardware
  • Complete drywall installation, finishing, and repairs
  • Perform trim carpentry, including baseboards and molding
  • Repair and install flooring across various surfaces
  • Repair and replace doors, windows, and roofing systems
  • Assist with small-scale renovations and building modifications
  • Inspect contractor work to ensure quality and compliance
  • Maintain records and manage materials for assigned projects

Required Qualifications:
VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT:
Requires high school diploma or GED and any combination of education and experience equivalent to satisfactory completion of one year of college education.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of six months of related, full-time equivalent experience.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
Requires a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is in compliance with City Driving Standards.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Performance of essential functions may require exposure to confined spaces. Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties.
