About This Position
Roles/Responsibilities
- Coordinate front end work leading up to the capital design phase of the project
- Lead the development of overall project scope, execution strategy, and cost estimate for funds request
- Execute project while meeting safety, cost and schedule goals
- Participate and/or lead Engineering Design and Review as required
- Act as role model for other less experienced engineers and mentor/coach as appropriate
- Prepare monthly progress report
- Be responsible for technical content and interfaces for scopes of work
- Prepare Scopes of work, Bills of Materials, and all design documents for IFA and IFC.
Structural Designer:
- Design reinforced concrete structures including drilled piers, spread footings, concrete and masonry retaining walls, building foundations, and large mat footings
- Design Pipe supports
- Design steel stairways and platforms
- Design tank foundations
- Retrofit design work for steel and concrete structures
- Paving and grading plans
- Steel building framework systems
- Underground structures including tunnels and vaults
Experience and Skills Requirements
- Minimum of 7 yrs experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of Civil Structural Design practices.
- Able to plan and organize projects from inception to start up
- Ability to work in and foster a strong team environment with minimal supervision
- Knowledge of chemical or refinery facilities and integration of project work in these facilities
- Strong safety champion who will lead the project in achieving zero incidents and injuries
- Self-motivated with ability to originate and adapt to new ideas
- Able to handle multiple activities simultaneously
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proficient in use of following:
- AISC Standards and Specifications
- Structural design/analysis applications such as STAAD
- ACI 318 Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete
- ASCE Standard 7-05 including working knowledge of all seismic and wind design requirements for building and non-building structures
- OSHA as related to standard industrial practice
- PIP (Process Industry Practices) STC01015 Structural Design Criteria or equivalent
- Working knowledge of MS Office products (Excel, Word, Project, etc.)
- Strong desire to learn and work in a team environment
- AutoCAD Civil/Structural tools
- CADWorx Civil/Structural tools
- Use of 3D scan data to facilitate design.
Physical Requirements:
This position is primarily in an office environment. However, field investigation of in-plant piping, civil, structural, or mechanical equipment requires the ability to don personnel protective equipment (PPE) such as flame-retardant clothing (FRC), hart hat, safety eyewear, safety footwear, fall protection harnesses or other specialty PPE. Ability to manipulate office materials and/or equipment and occasionally Lift, Hold/Carry 5-10lbs.
Required Physical Manipulation performed from:
- Ground to waist
- Waist level
- Waist to shoulder
- Above shoulder
Required Climbing Abilities: To move up or mount stairs and ladders by using the hands or feet as required including, a step stool ladder, 8’ to 10’ ladder, extension ladder and/or stairs of 1-3 or more flights.
Required Ability to Stand, Sit, Walk: Frequency is occasional as required by job duties 9 plus hours per day.
Required ability to walk over terrain conditions:
