Campus Police Officer Full-time at Columbus Technical College – Columbus, Georgia, Georgia
About This Position
Columbus Technical College is seeking an individual to serve as a Full-time Campus Police for our Campus Police Department. The Campus Police Officer performs a full range of assigned law enforcement duties to maintain safety, security, and order on the Columbus Technical College campus and properties. The Campus Police Officer typically reports to the Campus Police Sergeant. This position is full-time/Non-exempt. This position will begin June 1, 2025.
Responsibilities:
- Protects life and property through the enforcement of federal, state, local laws, & college regulations while respecting all Constitutional Rights
- Proactively patrols assigned areas
- Responds to calls for police service
- Conducts preliminary & follow-up criminal and traffic investigations
- Conducts interviews
- Prepares written reports and field notes of investigations and patrol activities
- Arrest and processes criminals
- Testifies in court
- Emergency duties required during adverse weather conditions
- Ability to exercise judgment in determining when to use force and to what degree
- Operate a law enforcement vehicle under emergency conditions day or night
- Comprehending legal documents including citations, affidavits, warrants, and other documents
- Commanding emergency personnel at accidents, emergencies, and disasters
- Takes an active role in Community Oriented Policing on campus
- Self-initiate traffic and / or criminal investigations
- Coordinates with local law enforcement jurisdictions
- Inspects assigned area for fire or environmental hazards
- Monitors and authorizes entrance and departure of employees, visitors, and other persons to guard against and maintain the security of premises
- Warns persons of rule infractions or violations
- Collaborates with others to prepare and analyze damage assessments following emergencies
- Directs traffic and provides security during special events
- Maintains Peace Officer Standards Training certification

Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Georgia P.O.S.T. certification “in good standings” is required (Peace Officer)
- Valid Driver's License
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate's degree or Higher
- 3 years of related law enforcement experience
- Combination of education and work experience to equal above
Salary/Benefits:
Salary is commensurate with experience/education. Benefits include state holidays, annual leave, and sick leave, State of Georgia Retirement, Health and Flexible Benefits Program.
