About This Position
Department: Transit Division, Public Works
Reports to: Transit Ops Supervisor/Transit Manager
FLSA: Non Exempt
Grade: 20
SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Transit Manager and supervision of the Transit Operations Supervisor, the Transit Driver is responsible for driving the Town’s Galloping Goose Public Transit System and transporting passengers in a safe, timely, and courteous manner.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Public Transportation
Operate Galloping Goose transit buses
• Obtain and maintain Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with passenger endorsement
• Competently perform all driving functions in all weather conditions
• Greet each passenger in a friendly manner
• Follow route schedule conscientiously
• Complete accurate rider count for ridership logs
• Communicate via 2-way radio
• Other tasks and special projects as assigned
Safety
• Perform pre and post trip inspections on each shift
• Perform basic maintenance checks as scheduled
• Inform supervisor of necessary repairs
• Keep vehicle clean in accordance with operation standards
• Notify supervisor of unsafe working conditions
• Knowledgeable of FTA Post Accident Thresholds
• Work safely to avoid at fault accidents
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Education/Experience/Licenses/Certifications):
High school diploma or equivalent; Valid Driver’s License; CDL Class C” with “P” Passenger endorsement required or ability to obtain within orientation and training period; no alcohol related motor vehicle convictions within prior three (3) years.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Knowledge of: safe and defensive driving.
Skill in: safe driving; customer service; defusing irate customers.
Environmental Factors:
Work is performed driving a bus and is subject to extreme weather and road conditions such as snowstorms and ice.
Physical Factors:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit for extended periods of time. On call work may be required for gondola backup. Nights and weekends required.
This position is subject to Federal Transit Administration Drug and Alcohol Testing requirements.
