Commercial Special Projects Lead Man at Joseph J Magnolia – Washington, District of Columbia

Magnolia Plumbing, Heating & Cooling is looking for individuals that would be a good fit for our new position in Commercial Special Project department. The Lead Man is a field-based working leader who supports the Foreman by directing day-to-day labor efforts, executing high-skill installs, and managing workflow in their designated areas. This role balances productivity, mentorship, and quality assurance while keeping the crew focused and efficient.

Key Responsibilities:

• Supervise and support Apprentices throughout the day
• Execute critical installation tasks such as offsets, transitions, equipment setting, and rough-ins
• Interpret layouts, prints, and specifications to guide crew activities
• Relay production updates, material shortages, and field issues to the Foreman
• Verify layout accuracy, pipe support spacing, and duct alignment before installation
• Assist in staging materials, tools, and equipment for assigned zones
• Maintain a clean and organized work zone and enforce safety compliance
• Mentor Apprentices by demonstrating techniques, assigning tasks, and reviewing their work
• Coordinate with Foreman to prepare for inspections, testing, and project handoffs
• Provide informal feedback on crew performance and labor needs

• 4–6 years experience in the HVAC or plumbing trade
• Demonstrated leadership ability
• Completion of formal apprenticeship program
• OSHA 10 required
• Strong mechanical instincts and a proactive mindset
