Navigation Center Cook
Salary:
Starting at $18.00 per hour, dependent on experience.
Hours / Schedule:
This is a non-exempt, full-time or part-time position scheduled for up to 40 hours per
week.
Location: PATH Plaza Navigation Center 550 Lay Ave., Red Bluff, CA
Responsibilities:
PATH Day Center is staffed seven days per week 24 hours per Day to provide
supportive services to people experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness
in Tehama County. PATH is seeking a highly personable, compassionate, and team-
oriented person responsible for planning and preparing economical, healthy meals
for all Day Center program participants, for upkeep and maintenance of the Day
Center kitchen, appliances, pantries, and for managing and utilizing donated and
purchased food items consumed by Day Center program participants. This position
reports directly to the Navigation Center Supervisor, and Director of Operations.
Essential Duties:Day Center Cooks support PATH’s mission of alleviating
homelessness and helping program participants to become self-sufficient by providing
healthy and nutritious meals and ensuring effective operation of the Day Center
program.
Prepares meals for program participants.
Prepares menus on a weekly basis.
Prepares menus with clear written instructions for serving meals.
Utilizes donated foods as much as possible and constructs weekly shopping
lists, taking food donations into consideration.
Maintains a clean and orderly kitchen and pantry area, including regular and
thorough cleaning of appliances, walls, cabinets, shelves, etc.
Organizes donated food stock, regularly rotating donated foods for storage to
pantry, and ensuring that food items in freezers and refrigerators are covered
and labeled appropriately.
Performs Breakfast, lunch, and dinner clean-up as required.
Monitors Day Center program participants as they are served to ensure all
guidelines are met as required by CDPH & USDA.
Recycles all kitchen waste as is possible.
Responsible for Feeding America weights and date entry.
Ensures recording precise weights in accordance with Feeding America
contract
Oversees SB1383 Food Recovery Contracts
Maintains all necessary written documentation as required by the local health
department, CDPH, USDA, and other governing bodies and/or funders.
Follows all PATH service philosophies, policies, and procedures.
Performs other duties as required.
Maintain appropriate boundaries when working with Day Center program
program participants, guests, visitors, staff and volunteers.
Maintain privacy and confidentiality, neutrality, and professionalism in assigned
role and duties.
Multi-task and work diligently in a fast-paced environment, and adhere to
meal service and other assigned deadlines.
Work effectively with persons who have diverse lifestyles, abilities, motivations,
and backgrounds.
Demonstrate essential computer skills: ability to navigate an operating system,
core computing concepts such as email, web browsers, and document design
and publishing.
Demonstrate general knowledge of the dynamics and causes of homelessness
and a commitment to end homelessness as a social problem.
Adapt to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
Arrive to work promptly and regularly as scheduled.
Concentrate avoiding distractions and perform essential duties timely and
accurately.
Operate commercial kitchen equipment such as ovens, stove tops, commercial
dish washers, steam tables, etc.
Follow proper procedures for the healthy and sanitary preparation and serving
of meals.
Understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions.
Perform repetitive manual tasks that require agility and manual dexterity, and
sort, stack, and arrange items in an organized manner.
Qualifications:
Previous experience cooking in either a residential or commercial setting.
Strong organizational and communication skills with a clear ability to provide
excellent customer service to all those in contact with PATH’s homeless
services.
Motivated, self-starter with ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Ability to solve problems.
Computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft 365. Knowledge of core
management information system concepts a plus.
Willingness to complete First Aid/CPR training within 30 days of hire.
Have or willingness to obtain knowledge of available community resources.
Must have or obtain within 90 days- Food Handlers Management Certificate
Requirements:
Must be 18 years of age or older.
Possess or obtain a valid California Certified Food Handlers Card within 30 days
of hire.
Possess a valid California Driver’s License.

Stand for extended periods of time.
Maneuver around the facility; stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, and reach
repeatedly.
Lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds routinely and 75 pounds occasionally.
Utilize a computer keyboard and/or 10-key calculator.
Meet specific vision abilities including close, distance, color, peripheral, depth
perception, and ability to focus.
Post offer, pre-employment screening requires successful completion of a drug/
alcohol screen, criminal background check, and motor vehicle record report.
