About This Position

Tech Lead, Data Engineering

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Tech Lead, Data Engineering in United States.
This role offers the opportunity to lead and shape the backend data systems that power large-scale partner programs, influencing how operations, workflows, and integrations function across the platform. You will take ownership of complex engineering projects from architecture to delivery, balancing technical leadership with hands-on coding. The position requires designing APIs, data models, and workflows while mentoring a team of engineers and establishing best practices for observability, testing, and scalability. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams including Product, Partnerships, Clinical Operations, and Data/AI to ensure systems operate reliably at scale. This is a high-impact role for someone passionate about building robust, maintainable, and efficient systems that directly affect user experiences and operational success.
Accountabilities:
  • Lead delivery of backend systems end-to-end, including technical specifications, phased migrations, and deprecation plans.
  • Design and implement services for configuration management, workflow orchestration, data validation, and system integrations.
  • Build and maintain APIs, data models, and domain logic with attention to versioning, backward compatibility, and error handling.
  • Collaborate on architecture, define domain boundaries, and establish coding standards and best practices.
  • Mentor and guide engineers through code reviews, pairing, and technical discussions to elevate team performance.
  • Define testing strategies, observability standards, and maintain robust runbooks for operational reliability.
  • Partner with Product, Clinical, and Partnerships teams to align technical solutions with business requirements and partner-facing needs.
  • Coordinate with Data and AI teams to integrate model outputs and advanced analytics into backend workflows.

Requirements:
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 6+ years of backend engineering experience, including at least 2 years in a technical leadership role.
  • Strong proficiency in Python, ideally with FastAPI or other async frameworks, and experience shipping production services.
  • Deep relational database knowledge (PostgreSQL preferred), including schema design, indexing, query optimization, and migrations.
  • Experience designing, building, and maintaining APIs and complex data models for production systems.
  • Skilled in service-oriented and event-driven architectures with focus on idempotency, retries, and safe backfills.
  • Experience building systems with complex state machines, multi-step workflows, or orchestrated business processes.
  • Strong technical leadership, including scoping, risk management, and delivery planning for small teams (38 engineers).
  • Excellent communication skills to convey technical concepts to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools and modern engineering workflows.
Preferred:
  • Healthcare, insurance, or enterprise SaaS experience with partner configuration, eligibility, or program matching systems.
  • Experience with GCP (Cloud Run, Cloud SQL, Pub/Sub) and cloud infrastructure fundamentals.
  • Exposure to configuration management systems, rules engines, or multi-tenant platform architecture.
  • Experience integrating ML outputs into backend services and HIPAA-compliant systems.

Benefits:
  • Competitive salary with potential performance-based incentives.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Flexible work arrangements and remote eligibility.
  • Professional development and mentorship opportunities.
  • Inclusive and diverse workplace culture with equal opportunity commitment.
  • Collaboration with cross-functional, mission-driven teams impacting health outcomes.
