Job Summary
The Tour Guide at Rock City Gardens delivers engaging, educational, and memorable guided experiences that bring the history, legends, and natural beauty of Rock City to life. This role plays a key part in shaping the guest experience by sharing compelling stories, ensuring guest safety, and fostering a deeper appreciation for one of the region’s most iconic destinations. Under the direction of the Guest Relations Manager, the Tour Guide supports Rock City Enterprises’ mission of creating Memories worth Repeating through exceptional storytelling, guest engagement, and service excellence.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Guest Experience & Culture of Excellence
- Deliver excellent guest service to internal and external customers in alignment with Rock City Enterprises’ mission, culture, and values.
- Model professional, engaging, and courteous guest and partner interactions at all times.
- Uphold and exemplify the Culture of Excellence and company core values in all guest engagements.
Guided Tours & Storytelling
- Lead guided tours for groups of varying sizes, including school groups, corporate outings, and general visitors.
- Learn, memorize, and accurately deliver approved tour scripts.
- Present engaging information about Rock City Gardens’ history, geology, legends, and attractions, including Lookout Mountain, Fairyland Caverns, and Seven States View.
- Use storytelling techniques and interactive elements to enhance guest engagement and create memorable tour experiences.
- Adapt tour delivery to suit different audiences while maintaining accuracy and enthusiasm.
Guest Assistance & Safety
- Greet guests warmly and provide assistance with questions, wayfinding, and special requests during tours.
- Monitor tour groups to ensure guest safety, particularly on trails, bridges, and high-traffic areas.
- Provide directions and recommendations for Rock City Gardens and other area attractions as needed.
Special Events & Additional Support
- Assist with special events, programs, and guest activities as assigned.
- Support Guest Relations initiatives and team needs as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Previous experience in hospitality, tourism, education, or guest-facing roles preferred.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
Knowledge & Skills
- Outgoing, kind, and energetic personality with a passion for engaging guests.
- Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to speak confidently to small groups (up to 15 guests).
- Ability to learn and retain detailed historical and interpretive information.
- Professional, engaging demeanor when interacting with guests and partners.
- Ability to read and understand operational documents.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to perform basic math functions using U.S. currency.
Availability
- Flexible availability, including nights, weekends, holidays, and special events as needed.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Regular use of hands and fingers.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
- Frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods outdoors in varying weather conditions.
