Assistant Plant Manager

Location:9203 F Street, Omaha, NE, 68127, US

Schedule:

  • Full-time1st Shift: Monday - Friday,6am until 3pm.Hours are based on business needs.

Job Summary:

Assists Plant Manager in directing and controlling the Plant operations and ensures the timely production of products and continued growth. Schedules production, ensures product wholesomeness and adherence to company regulatory specifications. Develops and implements process improvement strategies to enhance work processes and output that lead to significant cost savings and improved quality, safety and customer satisfaction. Responsible for the management and development of all production personnel.

You must provide strategic and people-centered leadership for a department, ensuring operational excellence, financial oversight, team development, and accountability for key talent decisions.

Major Job Responsibilities/Job Duties:

  • Assists with directing and controlling Plant Operations:
  • Conducts yield testing to determine product costs and utilization of materials. Schedules the production of OS manufactured goods.
  • Conducts quality control testing of a randomly selected product; makes recommendations for packaging and production techniques. Provides the focus for continuous quality improvements.
  • Establish production schedules. Monitors inventories, tracks progress of production, and reviews factors that affect schedules. Makes necessary modifications to schedules, informing appropriate department of revisions.
  • Confers with USDA meat inspectors to ensure the quality and sanitation of Company products and production processes.
  • Projects and makes recommendations for manpower and budget requirements for the facility and forwards to Production management for review.
  • Reviews output measurements and management tools to determine efficiency of operations, reviews decisions of subordinate supervisors and approves supervisory actions related to personnel matters and departmental operations.
  • Interviews and hires; trains, schedules and counsels; performs necessary disciplinary actions; conducts performance appraisals and prepares salary recommendations for subordinate personnel. Accountable for overseeing the on-the-job training program ensuring that accurate training is delivered and motivational techniques are used to maximize productivity and efficiency.
  • Oversees employee payroll records to ensure their accuracy, such as time cards, payroll reports.
  • Develops and implements process improvement strategies to enhance work processes and output that lead to significant cost savings and improved quality, safety and customer satisfaction.
  • Gathers information to evaluate current work processes in order to determine the flow of work, time requirements, costs, and duration. Analyzes process measurements and applies the principles of TQM.
  • Ensures process efficiency for production area. Develops new processes and programs and implements process improvements.
  • Measures and evaluates the improvement of recommended strategies and programs. Reports on the improvements to management.
  • Researches new processes through online resources, product shows and literature.
  • Instructs and leads others in process improvements. Facilitates training classes and develops employee teams to build cohesiveness and improve overall results.
  • Maintains and analyzes all production-related forms, including, but not limited to, inventory control sheets, downtime and weight logs, pounds per hour, box size database, USDA label schedule, 96th St packaging report and Multivac Impression Count tracking.
  • Develops and maintains contacts with relevant organizations in the industry in an effort to keep abreast of food industry practices and the latest technologies in the field.
  • Researches and tests new equipment. Analyzes results and reports on ROI.
  • Develops and coordinates programs to recognize and reward groups or individuals for suggestions and actions related to process improvement.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • 4- year college degree or equivalent
  • Business, Agriculture or related areas
  • 5-7 years related production experience; supervisory experience
  • Proficient in Excel and Word
  • Thorough knowledge of plant operations in purchasing, quality and inventory control.
  • Knowledge of yield testing methods and techniques. Basic skill in researching, developing and implementing new product lines.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills. Conveys clear expectations and actively listens. Adapts messaging to the audience.
  • Well organized with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to negotiate.
  • High-level analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective coaching and development skills: develops others through feedback, montoring and performance conversations.
  • Builds trust, motivates other and fosters a positive work environment.
