About This Position
Description:
Job Summary: The Staff Accountant supports the finance department by managing payroll processing, maintaining accurate financial records, and assisting with general accounting functions. This role ensures compliance with payroll regulations and contributes to timely, accurate financial reporting.
I. Duties and Responsibilities:
- Report to the Chief Financial Officer.
- Complete monthly bank reconciliations.
- Responsible for completing bank deposits.
- Post accounts receivable payments monthly.
- Complete statistical reporting as needed.
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities.
- Support preparation of financial statements and management reports.
- Respond to employee payroll inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
- Assist with audits by providing payroll and accounting documentation.
- Process bi-weekly payroll, including wage calculations and deductions.
- Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws.
- Prepare and post journal entries related to payroll and other accounting transactions.
- Reconcile payroll accounts and resolve discrepancies promptly.
- Process Medicaid/Palliative care billing claims.
- Review and monitor all new and aging accounts ensuring all claims are processed timely and accurately.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Schedule:
Job Type: Full-time
Expected hours: 40 per week
- 8-hour shifts Monday-Friday
- 5 days/week

II. Required Skills and Abilities:
- Must be able to participate in the Federal and State healthcare programs.
- Extreme attention to detail.
- Knowledge and experience with Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance billing procedures.
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of hospice reimbursement and billing procedures.
- Keep a professional appearance and uphold the organization’s reputation at all times.
- Exhibit professional demeanor and appropriate decision-making in stressful situations.
- Must demonstrate effective communication skills and maintain good working relationships with employees, vendors, patients, and patient families.
- Knowledge and understanding of modern office practices and procedures.

III. Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 2+ yrs. of accounting experience, with payroll processing required.
- Proficiency is accounting software and payroll systems.
- Strong knowledge of payroll regulations and accounting principles (GAAP).
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and confidentiality.
- Must be able to pass a driving records check (upon hire and annually), criminal background check, and drug screens (pre-employment and randoms).
- Must maintain automobile liability insurance.
IV. Physical Requirements:
- Must observe universal precautions.
- Must meet physical requirements for position.
- Must pass in-house physical with good results.
- Must be able to walk, lift, push/pull, stand, sit, stoop, read, write, drive, type on keyboard.
- Must be able to work in an environment with potential for noisy, dusty, dirty, poor ventilation and exposure to disease.
