About the role
The Director of Accounting will play a critical leadership role in managing the monthly and quarterly close cycles, overseeing the accounting operations across all business divisions, and ensuring the accuracy, timeliness, and integrity of financial reporting. This individual will work closely with the CAO, CFO, and operational leadership to support strategic financial initiatives and maintain strong internal controls.What you'll do
Own and lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close process across multiple business units (sales, leasing, service, and parts). Direct and mentor a team of controllers and accounting managers, ensuring consistent application of accounting policies and procedures.Oversee general ledger maintenance, journal entry review, account reconciliations, and financial consolidations.Coordinate with the CAO and CFO to prepare internal financial statements, KPIs, and variance analysis. Collaborate with the FP&A team to support budgeting and forecasting efforts.Maintain compliance with GAAP and ensure all financial records are accurate and audit ready.Develop and implement accounting policies, processes, and internal controls to improve efficiency and mitigate risk. Serve as a key liaison for external auditors and support annual audits and tax filings.Drive process improvement and automation initiatives, including optimization of ERP/accounting systems.Provide guidance on technical accounting issues and complex transactions.Support strategic projects such as acquisitions, system upgrades, or new business unit integration.Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field
8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership role.
Prior experience managing accounting close processes and leading multi-entity accounting operations.
Industry experience in dealerships, leasing, equipment rental, or similar asset-based businesses strongly preferred. Strong understanding of GAAP, consolidations, and internal controls.
Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage and develop high-performing teams. Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
Proficiency in ERP/accounting systems (Karmak, QuickBooks Enterprise, Fixed Asset Management).
