Custodian at St. Maria Goretti Roman Catholic Parish Scottsdale – Scottsdale, Arizona

Position Summary

The Part-Time Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for parishioners, staff, visitors, and all who use the facilities of St. Maria Goretti Parish. This position supports the mission of the parish by ensuring that church buildings and grounds reflect dignity, hospitality, and good stewardship.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

· The Custodian is responsible for the care, cleanliness, and basic upkeep of all parish facilities, including but not limited to the church, adoration chapel, offices, classrooms, restrooms, hall, and outdoor areas.

· Cleaning and Maintenance

· Clean and sanitize restrooms, kitchens, classrooms, offices, and common areas.

· Sweep, mop, vacuum, and maintain floors.

· Empty trash and recycling.

· Dust, wipe down surfaces, and clean windows and doors as needed.

· Set up and take down rooms for parish meetings, events, and liturgies.

· Clean the church before and after Masses, funerals, weddings, and parish events.

· Ability to work cooperatively with parish staff, volunteers, and clergy.

Additional job Functions

Perform other duties as needed to support the mission and operations of the parish, as assigned by the Pastor.

Facility Support

· Ensure buildings are locked and secured when not in use.

· Monitor building conditions and report maintenance needs to the Supervisor

· Perform light maintenance tasks such as replacing light bulbs, tightening fixtures, and minor repairs.

· Maintain cleanliness and order of outdoor areas (walkways, entryways, and parking areas).

Supplies and Equipment

· Maintain cleaning supplies and inform parish office when supplies need to be replenished.

· Use parish equipment properly and safely.

Work Schedule

This is a part-time position scheduled to work Saturday through Tuesday from 6:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The position may also require availability during evenings and holidays based on parish activities and the liturgical calendar. This work schedule is subject to modification based on the operational needs of the parish.

Qualifications

· Ability to work independently and take initiative.

· Ability to perform physical work including lifting, bending, standing, and walking for extended periods.

· Basic knowledge of cleaning equipment and products.

· Dependable, punctual, and trustworthy.

· Respectful of the mission, values, and sacred spaces of the Catholic Church.

Preferred Qualities

· At least two years of prior custodial or maintenance experience.

· Attention to detail and pride in maintaining a clean, welcoming environment.

Working Conditions

This position requires physical activity including lifting up to 40 lbs, climbing, bending, and standing for long periods. The work environment includes indoor and outdoor parish facilities.
