About the role
The Accounting Specialist plays a key part in keeping our financial operations running smoothly. You will support daily accounting activities such as accounts payable and receivable processing, payroll updates, maintaining petty cash, and assisting with month end and year end closings. This role also helps keep financial records accurate, organized, and up to date while communicating with vendors and customers regarding invoices and payments and providing administrative and customer service support as needed. What you'll do
- Process and manage accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions.
- Assist the Controller with month end and year end closing activities.
- Support accounts receivable collection efforts by monitoring outstanding balances and following up on past due invoices.
- Communicate with vendors and customers regarding invoices, payments, and account discrepancies.
- Maintain and reconcile petty cash.
- Enter payroll paperwork and team member changes into the payroll system.
- Maintain organized financial records, documentation, and files.
- Provide general administrative support, including filing, answering phones, and routing correspondence.
- Provide backup support to the customer service team as needed.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma.
- Previous accounting experience.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive financial and payroll information.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for working with vendors, customers, and internal teams.
- Solid basic math skills.
- Strong problem solving skills and ability to resolve discrepancies.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Knowledge of accounting principles and practices and reporting of financial data.
- Strong working knowledge of computers and applications, especially Excel.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Persistence and ability to follow up on open items.
Desired Qualifications
- Associate degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- Experience with accounting software such as Sage or similar ERP systems.
- Positive attitude toward a variety of tasks assigned.
The pay range for this role is:
22.25 - 25.03 USD per hour(Albion, MI)
