About This Position
We’re seeking a skilled and experienced paralegal to support our growing legal team. This is an in-person position.
Compensation:$61,000 yearly
Responsibilities:
- Take care of administrative tasks such as answering phones and maintaining an organized filing system for all legal documents
- Conduct interviews with clients to gather information about their legal issues
- Manage real estate transactions from contract through closing, including initial contract review, responding to correspondence, title review and clearance, and preparing closing documents
- Draft estate planning documents, review and explain documents with clients, and supervise document execution
- Maintain and manage practice and document management systems, including Clio Grow, Clio Manage, and NetDocuments
Qualifications:
- At least 3 years of experience in legal services under an attorney or lawyer in a law firm setting
- Strong preference for candidates who have completed a paralegal professional certification or have an advanced paralegal education
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Candidates must have excellent demeanor, both in person and on the phone
- Strong preference for candidates with prior experience handling residential real estate closings and/or estate planning
About Company
Christopher J. Cummings, P.C. consists of one paralegal, Christopher J. Cummings, who has been in private practice since 1996 after serving as a felony prosecutor for 9 years in the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office and 2½ years as legal counsel for the Illinois Department of Corrections. Chris also served as a Judge Advocate General in the United States Army Reserve for 26 years.
Our practice is primarily transactional, focusing on estate planning, probate, trust administration, and real estate. In addition, Chris has served as the Village Attorney for the Village of Homewood since 2006, representing the village in a wide range of issues, including economic development and tax increment financing, Freedom of Information, Open Meetings Act, and all facets of local government.
