This role sits at the intersection of technical accounting, financial systems, and data-driven transformation, focusing on one of the most critical cost areas in the business: sales and partner commissions. You will oversee end-to-end commission accounting while ensuring compliance with ASC 606 and strengthening financial accuracy across complex, high-volume datasets. The position goes beyond traditional accounting by driving automation, modernizing systems, and integrating AI-enabled tools to improve forecasting, reconciliation, and anomaly detection. You will partner closely with cross-functional teams including Finance, IT, RevOps, Legal, and Data Services to redesign scalable, efficient commission processes. Acting as a key advisor to leadership, you will provide insight into cost trends and financial performance drivers. This is a highly strategic and technical leadership role within a fast-evolving, data-centric environment.
- Oversee end-to-end accounting for sales and partner commissions, including accruals, expense recognition, capitalization, amortization, and reporting.
- Ensure full compliance with ASC 606, including assessment of contract modifications, renewals, disputes, settlements, and clawbacks.
- Define, enhance, and maintain commission accounting policies aligned with evolving go-to-market and partner strategies.
- Lead technical accounting evaluations and operational readiness for new commission plans and partner structures prior to launch.
- Design and implement automated, scalable commission accounting frameworks capable of handling large global datasets.
- Eliminate manual processes and strengthen system-driven controls through modernization and automation initiatives.
- Develop predictive models and AI-enabled solutions for accrual accuracy, anomaly detection, reconciliation, and data quality monitoring.
- Ensure SOX-compliant control design and operation, including audit coordination and financial statement support.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to improve commission systems architecture and data integration.
- Mentor team members and build deep technical expertise within commission accounting practices.
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience with strong focus on commission accounting and revenue-related cost structures.
- Deep expertise in ASC 606 and US GAAP, particularly related to contract acquisition costs and SaaS/subscription models.
- CPA certification is required.
- Strong experience with commission systems such as Xactly, CaptivateIQ, Varicent, or similar platforms.
- Advanced ERP experience (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, Workday).
- Strong data analytics skills, including SQL and ability to manage and analyze large datasets.
- Experience designing and operating SOX-compliant financial controls.
- Proven ability to automate accounting processes and modernize financial systems.
- Strong analytical mindset with ability to identify risks, trends, and inefficiencies in complex data environments.
- Ability to translate accounting requirements into system and technical solutions.
- Strong communication and leadership skills with experience collaborating across technical and business teams.
- Highly detail-oriented, systems-driven, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced, transformation-focused environment.
- Competitive base salary ranging from approximately $126,000 to $244,000 depending on location and experience.
