JOB SUMMARY
Eastside Catholic is seeking a High School Counselor beginning in August 2026 for the 2026-27 school year. The High School Counselor is a member of the highly collaborative Student Services Department and supports one-third of the upper school community (grades 9-12) with matters pertaining to mental health and academics, including some college advising support.
Specific Responsibilities
- Work with students, faculty, parents, guardians, administrators, cross-divisional student-support team and mental health professionals in the community to guide the social and emotional lives of high school students.
- Lead the course registration process, guiding students as they build appropriate class schedules for various levels of rigor.
- Perform credit checks for incoming and current students to help guide them to timely graduation.
- Support students through small proactive groups that meet weekly and provide resources to help teach current mental health topics in high school
- Write letters of recommendation for seniors.
- Collaborate with team members to develop interventions for individual students and the broader student body.
- Work with students and families to create intervention plans for students in developmental and situational crises.
- Establish and maintain a positive and safe learning environment where students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process.
- Maintain appropriate reports and records on each assigned student and protect each student’s con?dentiality.
- Previous school counseling experience, high school preferred
- A commitment to working with all students in a progressive, faith-based school
- A genuine interest in working with high school students and serving their mental health needs
- Knowledge of adolescent development, social-emotional issues of high school students and parenting models, in addition to a variety of counseling models and strategies
- Keen observation and ability to assess the needs of the school community
- Knowledgeable and skilled in addressing issues such as grief, divorce, anxiety, difficulties with self-regulation, depression, learning differences and disabilities
- Familiarity with the available state, county and local services
- Familiarity with test batteries and needs assessments and interpreting the results of both
- Experience with or understanding of Forefront Suicide Prevent Program preferred
- Effective skills to create positive relationships with students and their families
- Strong interpersonal, collaborative and organizational skills
- Effective communication and public speaking skills
- A commitment to practices that promote equity, inclusion and belonging
- MA or MS in school counseling or psychology, or LCSW from an accredited college or university required
- Education Staff Associate certificate or equivalent is preferred
